I was recently in San Sebastián and in between pintxos tours I visied Bodegon Alejandro. While not Michelin starred, it’s steeped in fine dining history and it was formerly owned by Martín Berasategui’s parents and it’s where he first learned to cook. The food was simple and delicious. The tasting menu cost €62, which I considered terrific value and a good introduction to the food of San Sebastián. less

I had the chance to eat here last year. I agree, it was a lovely meal at a reasonable price.

    The dishes served were:
    • A selection of pintxos (leek royal with mushroom broth, marinated anchovy with peppers, spider crab stew and pil-pil foam)
    • Slow cooked egg served with Idiazabal consommé
    • Grilled Hake with citrus vinaigrette
    • Iberian pork loin with mash
    • Seasonal fruit with mascarpone cream
    • Caramelized French toast with ice cream

I’m headed there in a few weeks. Any tips and recommendations for San Sebastian?

That spider crab stew has stayed with me! So incredible.

  5. Not the best looking food I’ve ever seen but hard to argue with the value of the menu.
