I ate pop tarts for ages and only recently found out they had gelatin in them! Gutted! At least the slush puppy ones are veggie 🙂
Just curious what food you ate for ages without realising it had meat/meat product in!
(I understand everyone is different, some veggies are fine with eating gelatin, no hate to anyone regardless <3)

Rennet in cheese
I ate marshmallows with gelatin (beef/pork) only stopped after researching what gelatin really contains.
The unfrosted ones are vegetarian and vegan.
I almost ate some Welch’s Fruit Snacks one time.
In college I would eat these packets of rice that you just microwave for 90 seconds before eating. I would get the Spanish rice packets. One day I read the ingredients and realized that I had been consuming chicken broth that entire time. It was a shame-I really liked that rice!
This is gonna sounds SO stupid but KFC gravy when I was 12 back in 2012. I had no idea there was chicken in the gravy and ate it with chips for …probably a year 🥲
Sometimes my family says “Worcestershire” (like WORE chester shire) and sometimes they say it like “wooster” or “wuster” or “wustersher” and told me it was vegetarian. Well I thought they were also sometimes pronouncing it “oyster” as like, a joke (we do goofy nicknames to the point of incomprehensible-ness) wuster, oyster, they’re kinda the same sound I guess? Anyway. Turns out none of them are vegetarian 🙁
Planters peanuts. Why?!?!
Candy cigarette or candy chalk ate them for a solid year before realising
Twinkies. Learned they contain beef fat at around 14-15 or so. Been vegetarian since age 11. When I was a senior in high school, I told a non-vegetarian friend that fact after she offered me a twinkie and she was disgusted.
Certain cheeses with rennet and jify cornbread
Wine.
Wine. Some of them are filtered using Isinglass (a fish product). https://www.barnivore.com/ is a great resource for animal product free beer, wine, and liquor.
Starbursts got me. They used to be one of my favorite candies, too. Thankfully the mini ones don’t have gelatin!
potentially fig newtons
(i still havent emailed to ask if they have wasps pollinatimg their figs)
Wait, whaaat! Damn it. I don’t eat them regularly but have definitely had them from time to time.
Nerds candies with the gel in the middle also have gelatin but the kind in the yellow bag don’t.
I have had to tell a vegetarian or two that Smash Burger uses beef tallow for their fries.
