CLOVIS, Calif. (FOX26) — As the holidays are in full swing, there are still families in the community who need food.

The Rotary Club, Clovis police officers association, Salvation Army, and other organizations were behind the effort.

The Clovis Boys and Girls Club, the Boy Scouts, and the high school Rotary clubs were among the assistance partners.

They collected canned goods, milk, eggs, butter, and fruit to help about five hundred families.

Partnerships in the community identified what families need, especially during the holidays.

The families are recognized by the Salvation Army throughout the year to help during the holidays.

The community was heavily involved in making this possible for needy families this holiday season.

An assembly line was created to ensure that the collected canned goods and fresh food were packed and handed out to the families.

A few Clovis high schools were significantly involved, donating their time to support the community and take ownership.

The Rotary Club’s Christmas food basket project started in the 1980s with only about 50 boxes of food handed out.

That number has since exploded within the first few years, and over 500 food boxes are donated yearly.
