After opening three previous establishments in the Sarasota area, a locally owned breakfast and lunch restaurant has now added a fourth location — close to the former space of the family business that inspired them.

The Breakfast Company has opened in downtown Sarasota’s Rosemary District at 411 N. Orange Ave., in the former space of fellow breakfast and lunch restaurant The Rosemary, which has since closed. (That restaurant’s nearby sister establishment, Rosemary & Thyme, remains open.) It is the fourth location for The Breakfast Company, which also has restaurants in Bradenton’s Twelve Oaks Plaza, Sarasota’s The Landings shopping plaza and University Town Center.

Dimitri Syros and his mother Terri Syros-King opened the original The Breakfast Company in Twelve Oaks Plaza in 2020. Syros’ grandfather is the late George Soublis, who founded the Greek restaurant El Greco Cafe in downtown Sarasota (in the space now occupied by 1592 Wood Fired Kitchen & Cocktails) a few blocks south on Orange Avenue and Main Street. Soublis is considered “the guiding spirit behind the family’s work,” along with his oft-repeated statement, “Welcome, my friend!”

“More than just great food, we’re proud to bring the spirit of philoxenia — the Greek concept of extending warmth and friendship to all — to every table we serve,” Syros said in a statement. “We want each guest to feel like family from the moment they walk through the door.”
