Well we got decimated by hail… won’t know what will come back for a bit. I was waiting for this storm to come through and drench everything and then was going to spread leaf mulch I’ve been composting to trap the moisture this evening….. please disregard the dog at the end husband thinks he’s funny lol

Dog is the only good part of the vid, the rest is just sad.

Hope the plants can recover from this.

  2. Jesus looks like a weedwhacker went through there. My condolences

Ouch. Painful to watch. Sony you wonder how humanity survived when a storm like this meant starvation?

Happened to me in northern Colorado too. Luckily my garden isn’t nearly that far along. Sorry friend!

This happened to me last year. The tomato plants came back full force and got about 10ft tall on my trellis. Peppers recovered as well, but I only lost foliage on the pepper plants. Everything else bounced right back as well. Hopefully yours does the same!

Just keep taking care of them as normal. They will recover!!

Your dog might be giving his opinion.

Sorry bud, sucks. Cant image all the effort planing and fantasizing about the bounty only to have golf ball hail flatten you

Grew all mine from seed past 2 years. Feel for you.

If you are in the DFW area I have some extra starts I can donate to you.

I was watching the weather and I legit said to my husband, “it’s going to be so sad to see all of the destroyed gardens on Reddit.”

Oh nooooo. I am so sorry. 😣 I’m in TX & hail(also my enemy) is not a respector of persons, states, or carefully tended gardens. 💔 My squash plants in a City Picker are too large now to fit under this improvised configuration of patio furniture & plastic mesh garden fencing (?) I have visions of constructing some sort of portable hail garage if I ever decide to plant something non-vining in my other City Picker. I hope you will be able to salvage as much of your garden as possible. 💖

This happened to me in COS last year. I watched through the sliding door and cried. I was devastated!

  11. Spiffy313

Oh… Oh no, I would just be devastated. 😔 So sorry, OP. I hope some of them are able to bounce back.

This happened to me last year! I had a couple of tomatoes and peppers that were too far gone that I replaced with nursery starts, but everything else bounced back! I did scoop out the ice as best I could so what was left wouldn’t be damaged by the cold. Best of luck!

That sucks! Sorry this happened to your garden!

  14. AuntySeptoria

This happened to my dad last year. He thought it was over and planted new seedlings. Then the damaged plants came back with a fury and caught up with the new stuff, he got a double harvest. Nature, uh, finds a way ☺️

This is the worst garden I’ve ever seent. And that yard. Is soooooo bad. Whytf did you put so much damn sand everywhere. It’s fd

  16. eatingscaresme

This is my nightmare. I hope your plants are sturdier than you think. The worst we’ve had (so far, thanks climate change) was a bunch of big holes in leaves but not total destruction. I’m sorry for your garden!

  17. kookiemaster

Holy crap, there’s hail and then there’s whatever happened there. They were literally blended. We sometimes get hail and it rips a few leaves but this is on a whole other level. I hope at least some of the plants come back.

  18. decomposition_

More like the garden of agony and despair, that fucking sucks man. I hope you can get some sort of recovery but I bet you’re super bummed

  19. Not_alecG

On goodness bro. I thought that’s was play sand from my phone screen my bad dog !! Haha man I missed that

Hard-core gardners will cover their plot with heavy tarps or canvas material. There’s no reason to accept this level of damage. Some plants will revive and recover. Others not so much.

I try not to let mother nature win. Weather. Animals. Vermin. Insects. Etc.

Note to self: don’t throw snowballs in the garden. Check.
