Holbox has been praised to death, but this place is a masterclass that should be routinely celebrated, so here we go!
I’ll keep it short: ~$80 post-tax for all of this at a one-star Michelin spot (in LA of all places!) is an absolute steal for this quality and quantity of fresh seafood that is accentuated perfectly by the skill of the Holbox crew. They truly understand how to keep the freshness of the seafood as the centerpiece of the meal without overwhelming it. The lines are long, but they move relatively quickly.
I came in fully expecting the scallop aguachile to put us in a chokehold (and it did). But we were pleasantly surprised at how good the smoked kanpachi tacos were! It hits you with a 1-2 punch of umami flavors that floored us since we walked in expecting the “hot” food to be great but not exactly the best.
The staff are absolutely brilliant. Super kind and incredibly accommodating to a T despite being slammed all day long. Nothing more that needs to be said.
If you’ve been meaning to try this place, please do before they inevitably get another Michelin star and get even busier. The lack of a white tablecloth service might genuinely be the only thing holding them back from it, because the food hands-down has earned it.
