Hey y'all…

Found this on FB Marketplace for $35. My brother is getting married soon, and has been wanting an "older" Weber grill for a while.

I am hoping to restore this and give it to him as a wedding gift.

There is so much out there as far as restorations, I am wondering a few simple questions…

  1. Best best on cleaning all the components? I have spent about 2 hours so far, wasn't sure if anyone had best recommendations on methods to avoid getting carpal tunnel.

  2. Would you paint the inside once you've gotten it clean? High heat paint?

  3. Best place to find parts for it?

  4. How would you go about restoring the exterior of the lid? I'm assuming I don't want to paint this one because of the Platinum decal?

Any other suggestions/tips/tricks would be MORE than welcome.

Thanks so much!!

Super clean degreaser is your friend. Full strength Eats the carbon and caked on grease. Pressure washer also makes very short work of this process.

I would not paint the inside personally. I’d leave it as is.

Amazon is probably your best bet for parts

Try just a diluted degreaser and a soft brush or micro fiber on outside. Might just clean up nicely with nothing else Pics show it doesn’t look to bad

Looks like you’re starting with some good bones! That’s the most important part.

For the shiny bits with the logos and such on them I would try to clean those up with some automotive products to remove the water spotting and just elbow grease it. For the outside wire wheel and light sand the flaky paint areas and hit it with satin grill paint. I would not paint the inside. Easy off grill or yellow cap oven cleaner can eat through most of the nasty stuff and reseason with some cooking oil.

High temp spray paint for the body. I cover the lid with paper before spraying the edges. Stainless steel polish works great for the lid

  5. There is a gas grill section on the virtual Weber bullitt site. There is a ton of info there.

Unless you have an attachment to this unit. Look at estate sales and auctions. Take your time. It may be awhile before something comes up in your price range and style. You are going to spend a small fortune. Unless you are very handy. I found an old one recently for 25.00. And it all worked perfectly. I couldn’t pass it up even though I have 4 grills, a huge smoker and a griddle. I bought it , fixed a few screws and put a new thermostat on it. Cleaned it and gave it away to my best friend’s daughter as a housewarming. She loves it and still uses it today.

Buy a couple cans of easy off and spray and let it set up and spray again wash it out. Paint it and start grilling. Enjoy the summer.
