I don't know if it helps but I point the open end of the logs towards the wind and use kindling at the bottom. I need a better way tho it takes a while

? Whats a long time. Shouldnt be more than 15 minutes for a chimney to be roaring.

I have a BGE so it’s like its own chimney. A paper towel with bacon grease works good.

Put charcoal in the top part, paper in the bottom, light paper.

  4. Before the daily paper went online I used newsprint, wad up a couple/three sheets in the bottom, charcoal in the top and give it a lite. Paper towels with or without some bacon or hamburger grease works but can be messier. Might want to do that over a disposable roasting pan to contain the funk.

  5. Webber sells paraffin wax starter cubes that work amazing and their cheap.

The time to hesitate is through
No time to wallow in the mire

I put mine flat on my grill and use a single balled up newspaper. Lights every time and is ready to go in 15 mins.

    Tumbleweeds.

They work well: i use them to start the pellets in the solostove too.

I use little firestartera and just put it on the bottom grate of my grill, where the charcoal goes

I use a chimney filled about a third of the way with briquettes, I use either tumbleweeds or some kind of sawdust starter thingy and it usually only takes about 10 minutes to get them orange and ready. Then I just put those briquettes on one side of the firebox to begin feeding the lump and chunks.

If your fire keeps going out, put the chimney on the brick and use a straw or sawdust igniter, and maybe protect it from the breeze.

I use newspaper, old butcher paper from previous smokes, or paper towel. Put a good 2-3 handfuls of charcoal (don’t need a lot) in the chimney and put the fire starter underneath. I put the chimney on the smoker to give airflow. After the chimney is going for a good 5-10 minutes I clean off the debris from it on my smoker then put it in with the charcoal.

I have an old cast iron pan I set down on the bbq and put the chimney in that. Fill the bottom with paper and 12-15 briquettes. Go around the bottom with a torch and ignite the paper, she’s rip roaring in 10 minutes. Dump the paper ash out of the pan into a bucket, clean and easy.

Paper towel soaked in cooking oil, set it on grate, set chimney on top, light paper towel, wait 12-15 min

I put my chimney on an old water pan and grate from a bullet smoker I used to have. Elevates it so it doesn’t burn/char the surface underneath, and gives more airflow. Charcoal in the top of the chimney, paper in the bottom. Give it 15 minutes and you’re golden.

Fire proof glove, and a blow torch straight on the charcoal in one spot for about 20 seconds. But I also have a Kamado style cooker so I don’t light all the charcoal at once for smoking. If I am grilling with charcoal I do the step above in three places. Can have the KK up to 700 degrees in 30 minutes.

Maybe you are packing the newspaper too tight.

Probably unpopular opinion here… But every now and then for basic burgers and hotdogs I love the flavor of old school lighter fluid charcoal. It takes me back to a kid in summer every time. Not my preferred method but I do love it every now and then.

I didn’t start the fire. That fire’s been burning.

  20. Purple_Aspect_1985

I use the side burner on my BBQ. I read that once here and have never looked back!

I do it O.G. style! I drink lots of beer and rub sticks together!

  22. BoxTalk17

The same way you’re doing it, charcoal in a chimney.

  23. I use Weber lighter cubes. Fairly inexpensive and they just work.

  24. Ok-Extent-9797

My charcoal grill is a Weber Kettle.
    (1978 classic. Still going strong)
I use the charcoal grate to set my chimney on.
    Light it with paper.

  25. Particular_Row_5994

I usually wipe my grill before smoking with paper towel with oil to prevent some sticking. Then I light that paper towel soaked in oil put in under the chimney starter. I usually put a couple of starters under the coals tho. If it isn’t enough then torch :/

  26. WalterTexas

Turn my homemade chimney on the side. Blast a torch on my oak splits about 5-10 minutes

  27. Bubbly_Pear_8044

We didn’t start the fire. It was always Burning since the world was turning.

  28. Odd_Ad2128

Paper towel with a little bacon fat on it works great
