I’m trying to prevent my egg from cracking when heating it up. Is there a good way to ensure it’s dried completely?

My egg stand broke, so my egg has been sitting on concrete for about 7 months. The egg was closed with a tarp on top, but the base was exposed to rain. The inside never got wet.

I bought a new stand, and it’s been off the ground for 24-hours. I dry-wiped all ceramic components and they are sun bathing to ensure the it’s dry.

What else should I do or not do? Need advice.

My thought would be to do a very small fire in there just to heat it up slowly and evaporate what’s left.

Just send it, go watch the family guy clip about quagmire slowly heating his egg.

  3. I saw a video on doing a dry out fire. Basically don’t let it exceed 350 F for a couple of hours. Couldn’t find it on YouTube. Could’ve been on the BGE or Ace site. Sorry couldn’t provide a link.

Are you able to put is indoors and slowly warm up? And only then start using a small fire to get it up and running again?

  5. If you build a fire on the fire grate that’s not making direct contact with the ceramic, and let it come up to temp normally, just hold it at 250°F or so for a while.

Not that it matters, though. I’ve run my Egg up fast after rain and the ceramic is porous, so moisture just bubbles out. The only concern over cracking would be if it somehow built up pressure, but it doesn’t do that.

  6. Blow a fan in/on it for an hour. That should make sure it is completely dried out.
