No you would burn your face. I think it’s okay to cook on though 😉 Heat it up…toss some seltzer/clean it up and go to town

  2. Intelligent-Eye7794

Yes, after turning it on high for 5 minutes

  3. Hoboliftingaroma

It’s probably pretty hot. I would use a plate.

Remember heat kills everything. When in doubt kill it with fire.

  5. The snarky comments are potentially endless. Yes, this is safe to cook on.

Looks like every cast iron, carbon steel pan I’ve ever had. Perfectly normal, perfectly safe. Check out the cast iron subs to learn how to reseason this cooking surface.

  7. It needs a good scrubbing, but there is nothing there that would hurt you or your family.

That would be awkward and your food would be way overcooked. I’d use plates.

Looks well seasoned…..heat it up for 10 min and party on

  10. Using a fork and knife on this surface will cause permanent scratches and make it more susceptible to rust. Plus, “licking the plate clean” IS DEFINITELY NOT AN OPTION.

Looks like an actual realistic cooked on flattop as opposed to the “just for show” griddles we usually see here.

I’d turn it on and see what you can remove with degreaser and a scraper. If you can get it all off and there’s no rust, I’d say it’s safe to cook on, which is what I assumed you meant. Now season it and keep it clean after every use.

Needs to be cleaned but yes very safe heat it up use some coarse salt to scrub it with some water rinse it and wipe it down with paper towels and then put some oil on it let it cool down then your golden

  14. 😆 🤣 😂. Yes, it’s safe to eat on. Tip…make sure you use oils that have high smoke points so you don’t burn your grill or get tons of smoke. I usually use peanut oil or avocado oil. They both have pretty high smoke points.

Jesus christ has no one on this sub ever cooked on anything but nonstick pans?

  16. It’s about to explode. Lucky for you I have been trained for this exact scenario. Send it to me ASAP, it’s the safe thing to do.

You might burn your booty but other than that should be safe to eat on.

If you’re really worried, clean it with some vinegar and a grill sponge, and then go to town. If you want, those Blackstone griddles are cast-iron, which is easily re-seasoned. Look up “cast iron seasoning” to learn how to do it. Good luck, happy cooking.

If you let it cool down first, maybe….

I guess if you sit indian style it might work.

  21. So put it on extremely high heat, get a bucket of ice or even better a single block of ice and put that on there, it will remove the encrusted black layer within minutes.
(Be careful with the steam it will create)
After that you can pour on white vinegar and water mix 1/1 to remove the water stains and remaining debris.
Take a dry paper towel and some cooking oil to rub on the cleaned surface to keep it nice and shiny. After you’re done you can repeat this process to avoid having the build-up on this surface.

  22. Clean and re oil it. I would not cook on it in its current state

  23. nosteppy_snek

I knew as soon as I read the title that the comments would be entertaining 😂. Gotta love Reddit. But yes it is safe to cook on. Could use a good scraping and re-seasoning, but other than that it’s fine.

Honestly, I’m surprised you survived taking a picture of it. I would just leave immediately and buy a new house.
