Copying over OOPs recipe from the original in the comments, and hopefully someone else can follow it a bit better than I did. it looks way weirder than the original post because Mistakes Were Made, but wow please believe me and OOP, it’s incredible. and yes, I do think a swirl of raspberry jam would be amazing, if you have jam on hand that isn’t 2 years expired.

These were a variation of red velvet cheesecake brownies I (OOP) make often that I (OOP) tweaked to fit matcha.

Edit: yes, they’re blondies. My mistake. Grammar.

    RECIPE

    FOR THE MATCHA BROWNIES

    1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

    1 cup granulated sugar

2 large eggs, at room temperature

1 1/2 teaspoons green food coloring

    2 teaspoons vanilla extract

    1/2 teaspoon salt

    3/4 cup all-purpose flour

    3 Tablespoons matcha powder

2 cups white chocolate chips (optional)

    FOR THE CREAM CHEESE SWIRL

8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature

1 large egg, at room temperature

    1/3 cup granulated sugar

    Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F and line an 8 x 8 pan on all sides with parchment paper. Set aside.

In a medium bowl combine the melted butter and granulated sugar. Whisk together until glossy.

Add the eggs and whisk until it emulsifies and is slightly foamy, about 2 minutes.

Steep 1 tablespoon matcha powder with 2 tablespoons of water. Add the vanilla extract, steeped matcha, and food coloring and stir to evenly distribute.

Add the flour, remaining matcha powder and salt and mix until combined and no streaks of flour remain.

Pour the batter into the prepared pan, spreading into an even layer.

Next, make the cream cheese swirl. Combine all the ingredients in a mixing bowl and whisk together until smooth and creamy.

Drop the cream cheese mixture in large dollops on top of the matcha brownie batter. Use a butter knife to make big swirls.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes or until a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean. Allow to cool before slicing into 9 huge brownies or 16 smaller ones.

  2. These look nasty, but I would eat the whole pan cause I’m a matcha FIEND 💚

*edited as the spelling of a harmless playful word is taking attention from op’s gross yet delicious blondies smh ofc this is Reddit where everything is over analyzed

Shout out to the Mr. Feeny comment tho 🤎

These induced a full body shudder and now my back itches. I’m glad they were tasty tho!

Is it the combo of yellowish white with the green that makes it controversial? Sound delicious but does have an odd color.

  5. Yum! You could serve it with a bit of matcha ice cream. You can make it by softening vanilla ice cream, stirring in a spoonful of matcha, and then refreezing! 💚

I said it on the last post as well, but these comments about this looking gross or like mold are just so bizarre. It looks nothing like mold, and yeah, the top on this one looks a bit weird, but that was accidental, and it still doesn’t look gross at all…

People here are just weird and are acting like they’ve never seen green foods before.

I think it would look A LOT better with white chocolate chunks instead of chips. That’s what’s making it unappealing to me, the color is fine but it looks like it has sores from the chips.

  8. cryingatdragracelive

    they look… unwell 😂

but I love cream cheese, so I’d try these

  9. SoggyCapybara

Honestly the chips activated my trypophobia 😬🤢

  10. How was the texture for you? I also made them today and I couldn’t taste the matcha (added a LOT more than required).

Also, feel like the temperature should have been higher, because they came out crispy at the bottom but gooey at the middle.

  11. ive made matcha brownies before and they look appetizing – i think the cream cheese? and the visible white choc chips look crazy (i usually just melt them into the butter) and that’s why this is so controversial 😭 i bet these taste AMAZING though! i’d fuck them up!!!!! 💚🌟🙂‍↕️

  12. I love that it looks like something aliens might make going to their first human potluck…

  13. How can something sound so incredible yet look so awful

  14. cubandbear92

Am I the only one who isn’t grossed out by these? Knowing they’re matcha, the green color doesn’t bother me lol. They look good!

  15. weldergilder

I an intrigued and horrified in equal measure, so good job I guess?

  16. MouthofTrombone

kinda looks like jalapeno cornbread. Hope it tastes good!

  17. shhocolate

With all due respect I thought I scrolled past r/shittyfoodporn but upon further observation I realized this person has a logical food combo going on- matcha & cream cheese

  18. FleetwoodSacks

I wonder if I could poke holes in these and add the strawberry cheong syrup I made

  19. I want tp make these, but don’t have any chocolate except Andes chocolate chips, and mint chocolate does not taste good with matcha!

Would do a small white chocolate (or any chocolate!) Drizzle instead of chips, especially since the cream cheese mix will be sweet enough.

    And extra matcha. Because. 😇

they look diseased but I’m sure they taste good!!!
