Tearing ass right out of the gate with pungent, colorful, complex aromas of wild blackberries/plums, salty olive brine, the sanguine, iron-like twang of bloody red meat, and subtle background notes of mocha or something from the careful oak seasoning. Dead classic syrah, with the nose and palate feeling high-toned and vibrant despite the general dark fruit profile and highly savory accents. Lots of bright, salty acidity and pretty gentle tannin for something this structured and ageworthy (doubly so for a “second wine”.) Powdery and fine-grained, for the most part. More acid-driven than tannin-driven.

No decant but followed slowly in bottle over some hours…I feel like it eventually arrived at a sort of *less* expressive character with that time. I think this might be one of those wines to either guzzle quickly now or age very patiently. Already very meaty and complex, with lots of fantastic fresh dark fruit- just kind of coiled up and fell asleep after a few hours, rather than expand.
