14.5 oz tail
1.25 lb big claw

Broke this guy down and served him in herb butter on toasted Portuguese rolls. Fed 4 people and it was fantastic!

Hey just putting this out here I dive for my lobster hand pick them off the reefs here in southern California I know they are commercially trapped for or hoop netted recreationally as well, here it is the big boys and gals are for bragging rights and photo ops they are hardy and time tested survivors this big old ones can keep spawning new generation of lobster for decades to come if you let them ,also hear that the big old ones are not as tasty so yep food for thought.

Anything over 3 lbs (really closer to 2 lbs.) isn’t sweet and is tough (my dad is a chef and won’t go near them. Plus the large ones can pass on their genes to a generation of future large ones.

In short what is the point?

    I’d rather have 4 1lb lobsters than 1 4lb lobster

That guy had a whole family and grandchildren

I had a large lobster once, I should have gotten the filet mignon instead. It was tough and not as tasty as a smaller one. Later I learned that the big ones aren’t usually kept by catchers because they are super breeders that help replenish the stock

Like three two pounders would’ve tasted better and given more meat.
