BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Main Squeeze Juice Co., off Burbank and Ben Hur Road in Baton Rouge, sells fresh juices, smoothies, smoothie bowls, and food options. Since their products are so fresh, Assistant Manager Jade Fisher said they don’t typically have a long shelf life. After seeing a handful of juices and meals get tossed every day, she started looking for a solution.
“We were looking for a way to try and eliminate the food waste but also not lose our profit,” admitted Fisher.
Of course, in 2025, there’s an app for that. It’s called ‘Too Good To Go’ and connects unsold items from grocery stores, restaurants, and cafes with people looking to buy items at a discounted price. After having success overseas, it launched in the U.S. and quickly spread to over 50 cities, including Baton Rouge.
“It’s a win for consumers who can save money on great food and try new places locally, it’s a win for businesses who can recoup that revenue that would’ve otherwise been wasted and bring new customers into their store and it’s a win for the environment,” explained Allie Denburg, Associate Director of Strategy & Operations at Too Good To Go.
The app is now live in Louisiana and has 275 food options to choose from, including Main Squeeze Juice Co. All you have to do is download the app for free, find a place to order from and reserve a surprise bag full of unknown items that would otherwise be thrown out for roughly half the cost.
“40% of food is wasted each year, and the nature of food waste is unpredictable,” said Denburg. “Food businesses don’t exactly know what they’ll have left at the end of each day, so you know you’ll still get something great to eat at a discount.”
Since joining the app, Fisher said she hasn’t had to throw anything away and hopes she won’t have to again.
“To give people the opportunity to try things that we have and see that it’s good and then they’ll keep coming back,” explained Fisher. “That’s what we hope for, that we can get long-term customers from these too good to go bags.”
To pick out your own surprise bag, you can download the app on your smartphone. Denburg said they are also looking for more food businesses to join. If you’d like to sign up, you can do so on their website.
