Recently purchased this 1989 LLC and should i worry about the fill level? It’s my first old vintage purchase and I’m worried about the condition. Cheers

Not amazing, but not too bad either. I’ve seen worse levels that were still amazing and better levels that were fucked. The level is only one piece of the puzzle.

How’s the capsule/cork? Not raised or sunken? Any leakage?

No real way of knowing the impact until you pop, but it’s not the worse level for a 1989 I’ve seen

I wouldn’t worry about it if it was in my cellar. I’d just open it and hope for the best.

Having said that, I wouldn’t buy it at that level. There’s just too many other great wines out there with a proper fill level for me to buy this one.

Sometimes maybe good, sometimes maybe shit

  4. I have recently taken delivery of several cases of 1986 wines which were stored at the Wine Society since en primeur and the levels are well in the neck. Bottles stored in my EuroCave from 1982 and 1970 are mostly just a little bit lower. I wouldn’t worry about this bottle – open it and please report back!

  5. All depends how much did you pay – if market price – brace and open (drink something else before )
