Wine is often associated with “elevated” or “refined” food pairings. But a new vintage on the market is tossing out that notion, showing that greasy or rich foods pair well — and sometimes even better — with its signature blends.
Greasy Fingers, a new wine from Australia now available in Ontario, is designed for your guiltiest food pleasures. Crafted to match the richness of any greasy snack, it’s shaking up the vino game.
To try it for myself, I paired two of these indulgent wines with my favourite decadent snacks, and well, the proof is in the pudding. Here’s a wine-and-dine deep dive into the world of Greasy Fingers.
Greasy Fingers Cabernet Sauvignon

What’s a glass of Cab Sauv without something to munch on? With the fruit-forward Greasy Fingers Cabernet Sauvignon, greasy and meaty foods pairs exceptionally with its medium, full-bodied profile.
To see what snacks are usually paired with wines, Greasy Fingers polled Canadians and top chefs. The verdict? Chips, pizza, poutine, fried chicken and burgers topped the list of greasy go-to foods to pair with this brand of wine. As for myself, I went with pizza.
Since this juicy wine complements rich, bold, and meaty flavours, I opted for a deluxe meat lover’s pizza, done up with pepperoni, sausage, and mushrooms, and it was a match made in heaven.
Greasy Fingers Cabernet Sauvignon cuts the fat and balances the richness of the pizza, creating a harmonious symphony of flavours — there’s a reason pizza and wine are a classic combo.
Greasy Fingers Sauvignon Blanc

For night two, Greasy Fingers Sauvignon Blanc was the drink of choice — a refreshingly light wine with tangy notes and a subtly sweet finish. For me, a sweeter wine is always paired with some cheesy snacks, and that’s exactly where I took this.
The crispy outside of a mozzarella stick with its ooey-gooey and salty filling was just the match for this wine. The vibrant acidity contrasts with the salty mozzarella stick for an indulgent meal.
If mozzarella sticks aren’t your jam, other cheesy bites would match just as well. Think deluxe grilled cheese sandwich, decadent Mac ‘n cheese, or even a piping hot cheese dip — the possibilities are endless!
