Found this in the pantry—turns out it was a housewarming gift from October 2018. The use-by date is August 2020. I remember it sitting in the sauce caddy on my counter for a couple years, likely exposed to some sunlight. I’m def not a FOFO type person. What do you all think, yay or nay?

If it has salt and vinegar it’s likely safe

The LA beast just drank a 100 year old coke, I think you’ll be fine

  3. Most of these sauces will keep. I’m not a medical professional, but I follow the No mold, no problem rule.

Omg what hot sauce is that? I recognize the label but forget the brand. Love that shit tho

And yeah it’s hot sauce. If it’s vinegar based it’ll last forever!

Edit: I scrolled and saw it’s seed ranch. It’s good shit.

Hot sauces typically are safe. Eat a small sample to see if you have a reaction, but more so whether you enjoy the flavor after all these years in your pantry.

How far down the ingredients list is vinegar?

But honestly, if it’s unopened, 99% chance it’s fine either way.

If it’s sealed yes. Unsealed no. See if you notice any hissing or gasses coming out of it or any other indicators of fermenting or spoilage.

  8. GoAViking

No bubbles to indicate fermenting. Should be good as long as it wasn’t previously opened.

  9. churnopol

If it’s a fermented hot sauce, it’s just aged. Still good.

    Use a Ph strip.

    2020 wasn’t 5 years ago dummy 👀

Edit: I honestly thought it was that ridiculous that people would know it was sarcasm but should have added /s

I got that sauce at an ace hardware and I broke the bottle. They didn’t have it when I went back. I was upset almost broke my no ordering online rule. Anyways it’s probably fine.

  12. I’d still eat it. I’ve eating expired hot sauces before and nothing ever happened

  13. Geirilious

It’s a hot sauce. Nothing can sustain life in these. Sure, flavors and colours might have changed, but your butthole will burn just the same.

  14. Vintage Umami Reserve Chocolate Habanero hot sauce $1,200 firm, no lowballers, I know what I have.

Tbh I don’t think I’ve ever had a hot sauce go bad. Had one grow mold but other then that no problems ever, especially if it was sealed.

It depends. Is it vinegar based? Then it’s safe. Hot sauce doesn’t go traditionally “bad” it just looses it’s quality and becomes boring, tasteless, or stale tasting as it ages. So it’s probably “bad” but not in an unsafe way, just in an edible way.

If it’s unopened it’s a hard yes and even if not I’d give it a soft yes.

I’d try it before I tossed it. Might not taste right after all this time , but it probably won’t kill you. Depending on the ingredients, some hot sauces literally can’t go bad. No bacteria can live in that environment.

  19. You need to include the ingredients. If it’s just vinegar, spices and peppers, go for it. If it is high in sugar and other fermentables, maybe not…

Drop a little bit on your finger and taste it. If it taste good drown your food in it.

  21. Ed from Puckerbutt says in one of the Epicurious videos that while the FDA says the shelf life of hot sauce is 2 years, it’s actually more like 7 years.

  22. Ancient_Fudge_4083

Unless u can see deposits in the bottom where the sugar(if any) is “clumping up” I say do it. Even if u do have some the sauce itself is still fine.

  23. stunna006

The sauce is gonna be fine. I actually just bought a bottle. Its good shit
