Probably my favorite Japanese bakery, The Loaf in Newhall is the sister bakery of Okayama Kobo with locations in DTLA, Anaheim, and Honolulu.

I haven’t visited the Honolulu location but I have been to all three SoCal spots and think Anaheim and Newhall are solid, DTLA never seems to have stocked pastries and the drinks always seem off.

But they are the only spot I’ve found with amazing melon pan or as they call it, “sunrise”, with the crispy, lightly sugared exterior and soft fluffy interior. (3.35)

I also picked up an Oyaki Gobo which is a crispy pocket filled with burdock root. ($3.85)

And to drink an iced matcha latte with matcha sea salt cream. ($5.75 + $1.25)

I love Okayama. My regular store is Anaheim. I’ve been to the Honolulu several times. I don’t really care for 85C stuffs after trying Okayama🤪.

I love The Loaf! Their milk bread is some of the best bread I’ve had, but it’s $10/loaf 😭Their curry pan and shumai are also really good 😌
