I assume you meant whole grilled onion? Looks like you’ve got a whole grilled and the regular onion. Delicious!
Here are all the ways I’m aware of that you can order onion at In N Out:
1) Onion (one raw ring)
2) Whole grilled onion (one grilled ring)
3) chopped raw onion
4) grilled onion (chopped up grilled onions)
5) Extra onion (2 rings of onion)
6) 2X onion (3 rings of onion)
7) whole grill onion wrap (usually used with the Flying Dutchman, will put a whole grill slice of onion on the top and bottom instead of a bun)
(Someone mentioned there’s a difference between “raw onion” and “onion” but I believe it’s just a matter of when the onion is placed on the burger so it’s colder? Unclear)

I worked there when I was a teenager and let me tell you, the grill cooks hate making whole grilled onions. It slows down the operation cause they don’t have it ready to go, like they do the regular chopped grilled onion (cause it takes a while for the raw onion to grill). That being said, the management was super homophobic so I intentionally order it now to slow down their business 🙂

This post makes me sad, I moved a while ago and the place I went to doesn’t have in-n-outs in the region and only NOW am I learning you can do this? Only now am I enlightened, when I cannot have that which has been revealed to me?
I feel like I’ve uncovered the secret to making a philosopher’s stone but only after the alchemists guild has forbade me from practicing. This is like finding diamond ore in Minecraft just as your pickaxe broke. The universe is cruel for revealing such a blessing to my taste buds yet doing so after I’ve been denied the means to accept it. I have no in-n-out and I must eat a double-double with a whole onion.

It’s not a secret. You can literally get onions any which way you want, as much as you want. Same for all of their burger toppings.
