I don't think I've ever not cooked the onions. Also I was wondering what's the easiest way to cook the onions without them lifting themselves up off the pan?

  1. Yeah, either grill slices, or caramelize in a pan

  2. Cooking the tomatoes is diabolical. Warm, wet, and slimy? Oh hell no

  3. Screwdriving_Hammer

    Sometimes yes, sometimes no.

Sometimes I like a nice, crisp, sharp snap and that clean and mild spicy taste, and that nice juicy gush of water releasing that only comes from a nice uncooked onion.

Sometimes I want that soft, pleasant, and complex flavor that a nice sauteed gives.

I feel like this is a trap to get people to comment on the insanity of grilling the tomatoes.

  5. Even if I have cooked onions on there I still like a bit of raw to go with it.

What’s with the comments about the tomatoes? You guys never had fried or pan-roasted tomatoes? Wait until you learn about grilled and oven-roasted tomatoes.

  7. MaxxXanadu

Yes, I prefer it grilled. Recently I did it tempura style before putting it on my burger.

    Fucking amazing.

  8. Nope. I like it raw. I do like onion rings on the burger but I’m terrible at making them from scratch.

i always try to but raw works for me as well

  10. Putrid-Action-754

I used to eat sliced tomatoes with salt and pepper as a kid, so this looks delicious to me. the crust on the tomatoes sounds amazing. Might try this.

I make own burger sauce. It has both raw and cooked onions, of course.

Imma have to try the tomatoes like this at least once 🤔

We’re all super-fans here so let’s be honest, ideally you have caramelized yellow onions, quick pickled reds, crispy fried shallots and bity diced white, right?

  15. sweettoothlessgrin

Gotta go raw for that cold, crisp crunch on top the burger meat 🤌

  16. roux-garou

i do both usually. i like grilled yellow onion and raw red onion on my burger.

Whole sliced white onion just above the bottom bun, with a light spread of good mustard to anchor the onion to the bread. Sweet Maui onion bacon jam above the patty, and above the cheese. You’re welcome.

Nope. My fave way to eat any onion is raw. I do cook with them, but prefer raw on my burgers or sandwiches. I go through more onions than any other grocery item.

Home grown tomatoes are the best and best raw. Cooking grocery store out of season tomatoes is fine — and probably brings out some flavor, as they have none on their own.

Picture shows my preferred cut for burger onions. Fried like this or on grill, single whole slices with cheese melted over top.

  21. White onions cooked slivers. Red onions raw rings.

  22. Kmoney4ever

Absolutely. Usually right on b the grill next to the burgers.

  23. I love raw onions the most on a burger. I like a slice thick as the burger itself my husband thinks I’m crazy 🤷🏼‍♀️

  24. thewholesomespoon

Sometimes! I’m dropping the most amazing burger recipe later today with some friend onion 😍

  25. FlippingPossum

I’m usually too lazy, but now I want a burger with grilled onion and pineapple. Would also chomp tomatoes.

  26. Swimming-Most-6756

Sometimes but it’s not necessary.. because I like the crunch and spicyness of them raw.

  27. Amiabilitee

Burgers go both ways for me-It honestly depends on what I feel like in the moment. Raw onions always enhances sandwiches, burgers included. Sometimes I just want some nice raw onion on things, as crazy as that might sound lol. But caramelized (or cooked) onions can help give an otherwise regular burger a much more ‘gourmet’ vibe!

  28. BlueCaracal

I like all kind of onion on burgers. Caramelised, raw, pickled, rings, crispy fried.

You could have a complete burger with just lettuce and all the kinds of onion.

Upvoted for tomatoes. No advice on the onions lifting up. Maybe get a bacon press. Or a spatula with a long blade and weigh it down
