Whether you’re a Perth/Boorloo local, new to town or just visiting (hi), it’s only natural to seek out the absolute best dining experiences in Perth. Thankfully, that’s kinda our specialty.

With strong ties to the water, Perth is best known for its impeccable local seafood, from Western Rock Lobster, Fremantle Octopus and Akoya Oysters to freshwater delights like Marron and Scampi. We’re also pretty blessed to have one of Australia’s highest-producing truffle regions a few hours away and one of the country’s finest wine regions on our doorstep too, which only adds to the premium culinary offering on offer across Perth menus.

At Urban List, we’re constantly asked where the best spots to eat in Perth are, so it’s a topic we’ve put a lot of thought into. Amazing food and a great vibe are key, but how it comes, we’re not too fussed about. A cheap and cheerful dumpling house, a wine bar by the beach with fancy snacks, a sustainable fine diner repping the finest Western Australian produce—if we’re obsessing over a spot (new or old), you’ll find it listed here amongst Perth’s best restaurants.

The Best Restaurants In Perth

Casa

399 Oxford St, Mount Hawthorn WA 6016

Infused with Si Paradiso DNA, no surprise to see this Italian-style bar slash restaurant has become an essential part of Perth’s drinking and dining scene. I’d say it’s somewhat more of a wine bar than a restaurant, but with punchy snacks, handmade pasta and incredibly warm and knowledgeable waitstaff, it’s very deserving of a spot on this list.

Every single wine on the list is stored in temperature-controlled fridges, so whether you’re sipping a skin-contact orange or something old, bold and red, you know it’s being served exactly how the winemaker intended. I’ve visited Casa on many different occasions, but I always, ALWAYS, order the focaccia. Served with a pumpkin seed dip with pickled green tomato, it’s one of the best breads in Perth.

Cassia

3/45 Henderson St, Fremantle WA 6160

In the winter of 2024, the team behind Cosy Del’s and Laika opened the doors to Cassia—a fire-fuelled tribute to the classic Australian barbecue, right in the heart of Freo. Focussed around the venue’s open kitchen, the fire-fuelled menu puts share-style smoked meats, fresh seafood and seasonal veg front and centre.

A stand-out is the 750g Treeton Farm ribeye, grilled low and slow over Jarrah wood. “You simply can’t go wrong with a perfectly grilled ribeye—tender on the texture, beefy on the flavour, umami on the aftertaste,” says Head Chef Dawid Duda.

The drinks list features crisp WA wines, local brews and a botanical-forward cocktail menu designed to complement the smokey, flame-kissed dishes. Bar Manager Ru Teow recommends the Cassia Club, a signature twist on a Clover Club made with locally distilled raspberry gin and dusted with freeze-dried Davidson plum. “It’s creamy, bright and incredibly layered. A total crowd favourite.”

Gibney

40 Marine Parade, Cottesloe WA 6011

Caviar at Gibney
Image credit: Gibney | Tristan McKenzie

Where do we even begin with Gibney? George Kailis’ marble-clad brasserie opened in early 2024, bringing table-side martinis, knockout ocean views and an unapologetically premium dining experience to South Cott. Yep, it’s home to that controversial $48 Caesar salad, and yep, it’s worth every penny. I was sceptical—how good could a salad be?—but after having it made at the table with charred confit chicken, white anchovies and unlimited parm by the dapper staff, it’s theatre, nostalgic and genuinely good eating rolled into one.

The drinks lean classic but are elevated to the nines. There are five martini variations poured to your exact liking, right at your table, by staff in crisp tailoring. Sure, it’s a little swanky, but beneath it all, you’ll find a stellar food and drink program reminiscent of the world’s finest European and NYC brasseries, all headed up by one of Perth’s most talented young chefs. It’s a splurge, no doubt, but one that earns its price tag with every detail.

Bertie

77 Old Perth Rd, Bassendean WA 6054

Steak and chips at Bertie

We’re a tiny bit in love with Bassendean’s sleek little wine bar slash restaurant, Bertie.  With award-winning bartender extraordinaire James Connolly at the helm, this gem is all about fancying up British-inspired classics and serving them with a seemingly endless wine list and top-tier Connolly-made cocktails.

Urban List Perth’s editor Danielle Davies is a regular. “While the thought of British food rarely conjures images of haute cuisine, put your preconceptions aside and dive in to Bertie’s Brit-centric menu,” she encourages. Her go-tos on date night are “the beetroot and whipped ricotta and spiced honey carrots, with chicken breast and asparagus and the scotch fillet, all to split. Plus, a Scotch egg with brown sauce for my husband.”

The aforementioned Scotch egg has been a staple on the menu since day dot. Connolly admits: “Most people’s experience with a scotch egg is something cold and unappetising, but ours is served straight from the fryer with warm gooey egg yolk and housemade brown sauce.”

The Heritage wears its name well. It’s refined, beautiful and downright delicious, and pairs perfectly with a martini or bottle of something nice from their extensive range of international and local wines (which hot tip: you can also buy to go now).

Vin Populi

Vin Populi's pasta and wine
Image credit: Vin Populi | Duncan Wright

From the dream team behind Balthazar and No Mafia, Vin Populi (Latin for ‘wine for the people’) brings a slice of laid-back Italian sophistication to Fremantle’s West End. The light-filled space sets the tone for long lunches and late-night vino sessions, where antipasti, freshly made pasta, and beautifully cooked local meats roll out alongside a 160-strong Italo-Australian wine list and some dangerously good cocktails.

Co-owner Emma Ferguson recommends the Rigatoni Amatriciana  (“an Italian classic, made with love”)  and Potato Agnolotti, hand-rolled little pillows of pure love and joy. I’ve had both on numerous occasions and can confirm you experience a whole lotta love from these two perfected pastas.

Emma continues: “Vin Populi is everything to everyone, as the name says. Come as you are. Dress up or down, just relax, we’ll do the hard work. Sit back and enjoy the vino!”

There’s a good reason Shui is packed out night after night. It’s a sensory experience from the minute you arrive at Subi’s vibey modern Asian restaurant—thumping playlists, sizzling aromatics from the kitchen and bartenders shaking tins like they mean it. “We want our guests to walk into a warm, vibrant setting and leave with a full belly and full heart,” says venue manager Ziggy Campbell.

The menu pulls big flavours from across Southeast Asia without being bound by tradition. Think xrispy cured kingfish spring rolls, salt and pepper WA cuttlefish, and a wood-fired pork belly that comes bathed in Shui’s most asked-about ingredient: crack sauce. “It’s an authentic Cambodian recipe called Crack Mien” explains Ziggy. “A sweet and spicy sauce made from a combination of fish sauce, lime juice, gula melaka, shallots, garlic, coriander and chilli. It’s a flavour explosion.”

Cocktails follow suit, and the Kami-Sama Bramble is the one to beat. A bright, aromatic twist on the classic, it swaps gin for white rum infused with coriander and lemongrass, poured tableside over lemon juice, berries and housemade blackberry jam agave syrup. An instant reprieve from the heat of the dishes and a must-order, in my opinion!

Our recommendations? Get started with a round of martini parisiannes as you tuck into steak tartare, swimmer crab vol-au-vents and potato rosti topped with smoked salmon and cultured cream. Then move on to French wine with succulent duck breast, steak frites and dauphinoise potatoes.

Headed up by award-winning Chef Melissa Palinkas, Young George dishes up smashable snacks, housemade charcuterie and smokey eats cooked over coal or wood fire. Our suggestion: get the milk buns with ramen fried chicken, fermented slaw and caesar mayo. Lions And Tigers

Lions and Tigers is the kind of place that Fremantle locals try to keep hidden from the rest of Perth and we can see why. The team has perfected modern Indian cuisine and every dish we’ve tried is teeming with flavour. You don’t want to go past the roti tacos—the filling changes on the reg so you can keep going back for more—and the sourdough naan is basically a right of passage.

Nieuw Ruin

Nieuwruin

According to Nieuw Ruin’s General Manager Shirley Yeung, the goal is simple: “great food, interesting wine, and the kind of service that makes you feel looked after without fuss.” That relaxed but razor-sharp approach has quickly made this heritage cottage restaurant one of Freo’s favourite haunts, for both a spontaneous glass and a blowout dinner.

“It’s a bit moody, full of energy, but always warm and welcoming. We’re serious about what we do, but we don’t take ourselves too seriously.”

In the kitchen, Head Chef Blaze Young’s menu is full of bold, unexpected dishes that champion native and local ingredients, complimented with a cocktail list that mirrors the kitchen’s produce-led ethos. It’s the kind of place that rewards curiosity, whether you’re diving into a bold new dish or lingering over that one last glass you weren’t planning on.

Madalena’s Bar

406 South Terrace, South Fremantle WA 6162

Madalena's restaurant

Down the end of South Terrace, Madelana’s feels like a postcard from somewhere far more tropical. “We want our guests to feel like they’ve escaped from the day-to-day,” says co-owner Joel Rees.  “Whether they’re sitting on a street in Barcelona or Brazil, we want him to feel like they’re really escaping into another world that’s not pretentious.”

The airy space is split between the downstairs dining room—perfect for long lunches and group dinners‚and the upstairs cocktail bar for when you’re particularly thirsty. The seafood-forward fare has a strong WA accent, putting the spotlight on local products and native ingredients. The Fremantle octopus is a highlight. As are the Shark Bay tiger prawns, and the Abrolhos Islands dhufish. In fact, everything Head Chef Adam Ree plates up deserves a spot on the table.

Lulu La Delizia

Lulu La Delizia, one of the best restaurants in Perth

This ever-so humble and intimate osteria is known for crafting Perth’s best handmade pasta. Headed up by restaurateur and chef Joel Valvasori, Lulu La Delizia has earned its accolades as one of the best in the game, not only in Perth, but nationally, beloved for its reverent take on Northern Italian cuisine and commitment to quality.

The menu changes often, but you can always expect a tight edit of seasonal antipasti, handmade pastas and deeply comforting secondi, each one executed with finesse. The wine list leans Italian, with plenty of skin-contact drops and bold reds to match the richness of the dishes, and the staff are always happy to guide you to the perfect pairing.

If I could give you one piece of advice, it would be this: always order the pasta special. I still dream about the fazzoletti I had at lunch last month. Giant, silky squares sitting in a pool of rich sauce made up of braised rabbit, fennel, tomato and oregano. A soulful, satisfying food moment that this pasta paramour will never forget!

The Shorehouse

Shorehouse, one of Perth's best restaurants

Few spots capture Perth’s coastal charm quite like The Shorehouse.  Swanbourne’s seaside restaurant has remained a go-to for the past decade, its polished interiors and a seafood-leaning menu a hit with both locals and destination diners. From Shark Bay crab spaghettini and fresh oysters to the fan-fave duck fat potatoes, the polished plates feel both elevated and effortlessly enjoyable.

You’d be wrong in thinking that the Celsius needs to be soaring to enjoy The Shorehouse, too. I’ve been with a group of gals in summer for a long, boozy lunch under the yellow-striped umbrellas, and watched a storm roll in during the cooler months with my boyfriend. Pure Perth magic.

Monsterella

46 Grantham St, Wembley WA 6014

Monsterella

Sitting pretty on the corner of Grantham and Jersey Street in not-so-sleepy Wembley, Monsterella is the kind of neighbouhood pizzeria we all wish we had in our suburb. This beloved local favourite is all about wood-fired pizzas made from dough that’s fermented for 48 hours, creating that perfect chewy crust. Generously topped with high quality ingredients and local produce, the cheesy disks are fuss-free, full of flavour and deeply satisfying.

Alongside the pizzas, there’s a tight edit of antipasti, pasta and salads. I can vouch for the arrosticini abruzzesi, ridiculously good chargrilled lamb skewers from Italy’s Abruzzo region. It’s also BYO, which makes this spot even more lovable. Bring a quality bottle and some quality company and carb-load to your heart’s content.
