My fourth time dining with the team at noma was also the most special and meaningful meal of my life because I shared the experience with my eight year old. A young fine dining aficionado, he had enjoyed several 3* and 2* experiences elsewhere in our travels but noma has always held a special place to both he and I. It was my first travels there that got him excited about the idea of food adventures and, after watching many documentaries and Omnivore – the lure of noma only grew.

I surprised him at a weekday school pickup and we went right to the airport and to CPH for a 48 hour adventure. The team at noma could not have been more accommodating and provided us with what was truly the meal of a lifetime. From the entire staff's greeting and Rene's presence to the tours of the kitchen during service and time in the test kitchen with the entire team there were more than special – they were core memories for us.

For both he and I, most dishes were otherworldly with particular highlights being:

– King crab leg opener
– Crab flatbread
– Crab broth
– Seaweed
– Scallop
– Amazake mousse

Really no dishes that were off mark, the beet and mussel dish was slightly "slimy" to him but everything else was totally on point. Pairings (both alcoholic and juice) were on point – adventurous and well matched to the dishes.

Having this opportunity to dine and travel with my son and to see his appreciation, joy and genuine happiness from being there was simply perfection. Many times we both laughed and smiled at each other during this meal, knowing without words how lucky we were to be having this experience. He truly understood both how special he was being treated and how fortunate he is to even have the chance to do such a thing.

Thanks to the entire noma team – you're amazing.

Sounds like an amazing time. Maybe I’m getting too cynical, but why is it ok to post photos with everyone else’s faces shown (including other restaurant guests) but not your own? Do they not deserve the same privacy you do?

  2. I just want to say, you and your son really do look alike.. it’s wild

Looks amazing. How much did this meal cost?

  4. Did your hand turn black when you held the menu for the last photo?

I’m 30 years old now and have been cooking since I was about your son’s age (unless you include snapping green beans or peeling shrimp cooking). Some of my fondest and earliest memories are lying in bed on my dad’s chest watching iron chef and emeril. He never once hesitated in taking me to nice restaurants or encouraging me to try something off the wall – my earliest distinct “fine dining” food memory is trying duck carpaccio at a restaurant in New Orleans (being unaware of what carpaccio was but only know that duck sounded like it would taste good). It was SO good my dad and I ordered a second one.

My father is nearly solely responsible for my love of food, which is probably my life’s greatest passion. He passed away almost ten years ago and I always think of him any time I’m eating a truly spectacular meal.

I’m all teary eyed now and just wanted to say kudos to you for doing this, and trusting your son to truly appreciate it. He will carry these memories for the rest of his life.

  6. What are those pinecone looking things on the table?

Divorced dad brags about wealth while wearing sneakers to Noma, then treats staff members like human cattle in a zoo (on top of praising a place that is widely know for its abuse of pressured free labour, aka wage slavery).

All that money and none of the class.

  8. Holy shit the comments in this thread are terrible. Some of you are out of your minds.
