The rust on the grates was much worse when I bought it. I spent a few hours trying to get it off ultimately with a wire drill brush. This is probably the best it will get. I want to use it today to cook some chicken with my vortex. What do you guys think? Can I cook? Or is my grate cooked?

Great score! Burn it off and start cooking! If you’re worried about it just go to HD or Lowes and get a new one (grate)

Looks like they used it a few times and then put it away for years. Nice find! It will clean up like new. Buy new grates if you want and it will be basically new.

that’s fantastic! i would spend a few dollars and buy replacement grates. any hardware store slips have weber parts. it will be worth it. good find. happy grilling!
