Really enjoyed Smyth. Nothing disappointed from a taste standpoint and many of the dishes stood out as unique. The caviar with almond milk, lobster claw with raspberry custard, and banana custard stood out to me as dishes that were both delicious and interesting.

The quail course was fantastic but didn't feel particularly special or different from what I could get at probably a dozen different places in town. Although the milk bread was different.

I wouldn't put Smyth ahead of other 3 stars I've been to (Jan and Rutz) and they clearly differentiate themselves from Alinea with a smaller, subtle dining room ambiance that focuses on the food instead of showmanship.

I will say I think Alinea absolutely has a great system of requiring full payment upfront that includes gratuity so the night of you never even see a bill. Smyth is rather old fashioned in that they present the bill with the spot for a tip which, I don't know maybe I'm weird, feels a little beneath a world class restaurant.

Overall an excellent experience. I'll be looking to do Oriole next time I come to town!
