There’s just something satisfying about a trailer full of fresh soil and compost | it signals the start of gardening season.
We picked up 2 tons of rich, garden-ready soil and 1.5 yards of dark forest compost from @minickmaterials, and we’re blown away by the quality and affordability compared to bagged store products.
Whether you’re starting a raised bed garden or just need a top up for your plants, this is a smart, cost effective way to do it.

Okay, I get asked all the time where I get my compost and soil from, and I love buying it in bulk from Mic Materials. They’re open to the public, which is awesome. You don’t have to be a contractor or a landscaper to shop there, and they have multiple locations around central Oklahoma. Today, we brought our trailer to get two tons of garden ready soil and a yard and a half of their dark forest compost. But even if you needed a little bit, there is no minimum. You could literally bring a 5gallon bucket if you wanted to because they charge by weight. They also carry things like mulch, gravel, sand, stones, literally anything that you might need for your yard or garden. Whenever we get home, we lay down a piece of plastic to go under the soil and compost so grass doesn’t grow up in it. But I like to put the piles right behind my garden. That way, it has easy access anytime I need to top off a bed or fill a planter. I’m telling you, buying in bulk is the way to go. It is so much cheaper and I love supporting local businesses.
