Beijing duck getting sliced at Mr. Chow in Beverly Hills.

Mr. Chow

With the most famous zip code in the world, Beverly Hills is synonymous with wealth and prestige, a city nearly encompassed by Los Angeles but in its own kind of tony stratosphere. There are iconic, longtime restaurants that have defined Southern California’s dining scene, like prime rib specialist Lawry’s, classic Jewish deli Nate ‘n Al’s, and Wolfgang Puck’s first-ever restaurant Spago (and even the first California Pizza Kitchen location). Roaming around the neighborhood yields a casual Italian restaurant on every corner, giving the highly walkable area an almost European feel.

Of course, Beverly Hills also boasts the famous Rodeo Drive, where unattainable luxuries await and paparazzi lurk to catch celebrities out and about. The neighborhood of Beverly Hills still offers some compelling food destinations, like relatively affordable Italian-inflected sandwiches at Lorenzo and celebrity chef Curtis Stone’s impressive bakery Pie Room. Here are the best restaurants to try in Beverly Hills right now.

In this update, we added New York City Italian restaurant Marea and Curtis Stone’s Pie Room.

Matthew Kang used to work in Beverly Hills for his first-ever corporate job, wearing a suit and tie and roaming the streets feeling like he couldn’t afford anything (which is still true). However, he’s been to most of the restaurants in the Golden Triangle — the central part of the city — and finds there are semi-affordable gems to be found among the high-priced establishments. If anything, get a sandwich from Lorenzo or the Cheese Store and enjoy it at the park just north of Santa Monica Boulevard on a sunny day.
