Is this correct? It seems awfully low for instant noodles. I suppose it has to be correct, but surely there's a catch?

The catch is they don’t taste very good!

They’re okay with a nice sauce, but the texture isn’t anywhere near as nice as wheat noodles.

  2. UlisesGirl

It’s konjac noodles… they taste like ass.

  3. xaxathkamu

I don’t mind the taste, but holy fuck is the texture bad 😂 Feels like you’re chewing on plastic.

That looks accurate for konjac noodles! If you weren’t already aware, they can definitely cause an upset stomach if eaten in large amounts because they are mostly fiber. They are better for Asian dishes rather than as a substitute for spaghetti, which seems to be why a lot of people aren’t a fan.

Konjac noodles 3x a week resulted in me becoming so backed up that I needed an enema.

Whatever these things are made out of your body is not made to digest. Probably why you don’t digest any of the calories.

I don’t mind them. Texture isn’t great but if you eat them with them being different in mind and not expecting a perfect replacement I feel like it’s good enough. I think in ramen or stir fry they do better than in spaghetti. I rinse, pan fry. Then let sit in the sauce for a few minutes to absorb the flavors. Stick to one portion before you go hard because some people get severely sick from them, especially if you’re not used to large amounts of fiber or are dehydrated.

They are konjak (shirataki) noodles. Many people have issues with their texture. They are a bit rubbery and chewy. When you open the package, they can have sometimes quite a strong fishy odor, so you need to be thoroughly rinsed.
They don’t taste like anything, so it’s good to serve it with some good sauce. It’s also good to cook it with the sauce. It absorbs the flavor better.
Also, it’s almost pure fiber, so if you eat a lot of it, you can experience some stomach ache.

I personally like them, but rarely have them on its own. I usually mix it with regular noodles to bulk the serving.

Konjac noodles are noodle shaped only. The taste and texture is nothing like an actual noodle. They are very low calorie and if you eat noodles more for the toppings they might do the trick. I could never get into them.

  9. nochillmonkey

It feels like eating rubber. They don’t fill you up either sadly haha.

  10. RedWedding12

You can also konjac /shirataki noodles

The catch is they are very high fibre, so if your not used to that you’ll get GI symptoms.

I know a lot of people are saying Konjac noodles tastes bad or they hate the texture, but I have to be weird and say I love their texture plus paired with a nice sauce (i make bolognese) is bombbb and guilt free🤣

  12. arutabaga

konjac noodles are only really good tasting in certain applications. I think they’re great for Asian flavors and in hot pot, but it grosses me out for stuff like spaghetti.

  13. pettyminaj

I’ve tried eating konjac noodles prepared in several different ways. In a stir fry, in pad thai, as spaghetti- it tastes like fresh booty cheek every time.

  14. They are Konjac noodles. They have a unique taste. Some people like em, some people hate them.

  15. Pulsatillapatens1

Are these the ones that make you shit yourself?

  16. Suspicious-Waltz4746

If you’re near a Trader Joe’s, grab the Heart of Palm pasta. It’s delicious!

  17. boopbaboop

They’re made of konjac flour mixed with glucomannan, both of which are basically just fiber. That much fiber can cause GI issues, even in people who aren’t sensitive to fiber like I am.

There is a caution about them being a choking hazard and the need to take them with plenty of water. This is because they are very chewy/gummy and people have choked on them before.

  18. death2055

Most things that seem to good to be true. The to good part is usually they don’t taste amazing.

  19. Yeah they’re basically like jelly strands. Pretty gross.

  20. RuledByCats

I haven’t had this brand, but I’ve had this kind of noodles before. The texture made me feel like I needed to be sick. Texture 99% of the time doesn’t matter to me. I couldn’t eat them.

Give them a shot and see if you like them. It would be fantastic for your calorie budget if you end up enjoying them.

  21. It’s konjac/konnyaku/shirataki which has zero calories but may cause digestive issues. Try smaller amounts first to make sure you can handle them.

  22. saltyseapuppy

They don’t taste bad if you cook it right but it FUCKS MY STOMACH up

  23. jadejazzkayla

This package is about 8 oz.

    How much does it cost?

What is the weight of 1 serving?

  24. They’re not bad tbh and thankfully we (husband and I) haven’t had any gastro issues.

They taste like chewy rice noodles. They’re great for adding a little bit of that feeling of eating carbs with a stir-fry or pasta without hundreds of calories, but they definitely need to be just a little something extra and not the main event. If you do too many of them in a single dish, they get weird really quick, they also are horrible the next day so left overs are a no go.

As a super low calorie, noodle -type thing to add to a 1200 calorie diet they’re honestly not that bad.

  25. It’s not too good to be true. It’s just the “noodles” are made of water and konjac, which is a low calorie root vegetable that is itself 85% water. It’s basically just a tube of water with an unpleasant flavor. It’s not some special trick. Think of it like cauliflower rice but much worse, because cauliflower is at least good even if it doesn’t taste like rice. These can also really upset your stomach. The texture is also supremely unpleasant. I personally would recommend spaghetti squash if you want low calorie “pasta”. It’s much, much more nutritious, not much more caloric and it tastes great.

  26. frozenAuzzie

Cmon guys they’re not thattt bad. Just have to cook them right

  27. Alpackamyalpaca

The smell when you open the package…dear lord it’s horrible.

  28. honeybuttercrisps

I know most people dislike it but the House Foods Shirataki Tonkotsu flavor was really good. Unsure if it’s still sold. Was different than the usual shirataki and had a better texture and it was actually a good meal. They also work well in Vietnamese spring rolls. Some brands have given me diarrhea, it was usually the non Asian brands.

  29. Kytyngurl2

These noodles are much better in Asian dishes

  30. BlueZebraBlueZebra

It’s basically not food, but shaped like noodles and you can eat it. They’re pretty meh.
