Perky, you have the best. The best ideas.
Holy crap, this looks and sounds just amazing.

  2. (1) The tin

    (2) The meal – I love Banh mi!

    (3) Opened tin – no pic because when the time came to add dish, I poured them straight into the sandwich from the tin. Saved washing 2 dishes ha

    (4) Slice bread and remove some to make a pocket for the ingredients

(5-7) Add sauces: a little squeeze of Kewpie, and a splash of soy sauce. I’m using Calamansi lime soy sauce – big flavor and a nice pop of acid and salt

(8-9) In with fish – dump it all in

(10-11) Add sandwich veg – sliced onion, H Mart banh mi veg, and cilantro

(12-13) I sliced mine in half to show off the construction of the sandwich

    (14) The bite – YUM

The first sardine Banh mi I had was from a little stall in an Asian mall food court, and it was amazing!

I watched the ladies make it. I saw them hollow out the inside of the fresh-baked French bread to make more room for fillings. A squeeze of mayo, soy sauce, and then they dumped a whole can of Ligo Extra Hot sardines in tomato sauce in the center. Topped with fresh Banh mi veg, cilantro, and sliced jalapeños, it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had!!

So when I spotted some ready-made Banh mi veg at H Mart (AKA radish kimchi) I knew with my 5th tin of 555 Hot & Spicy, I was making Banh mi.

I used a bolillo bread roll instead of French bread because it’s 5 minutes to the Mexican bakery and 45 minutes to the Asian bakery – and I was hungry!!

11/10 will buy these sardines again! One more tin to go!!

My only suggestion is next time make it even bigger.

Did you make the calamansi soy sauce yourself or buy it?
