Hyde Park has a new reason to visit after dark, thanks to the arrival of Aha Cafe, a decadent dessert lounge and French patisserie on King William Road.
The concept behind Aha was born overseas, after a chance discovery during a trip to Hong Kong.
“I was so captivated by the flavours and presentation at a patisserie I visited there that I began dreaming up a new project,” says owner Silla He.
“Adelaide felt like the perfect place to bring it to life.”
While searching for a location, Hyde Park stood out to Silla.
“King William Road had a charming and relaxed vibe, but not many places open in the late afternoon or early evening. We saw an opportunity to create a space where people could enjoy refined desserts and enjoy going out well into the night,” she explains.
With an experienced Head Pastry Chef, Alan Yeung who trained in France, and a menu that highlights both classic technique and creative presentation, the offering is polished yet playful.
“His creations reflect traditional French patisserie with modern flair,” says Silla.
One of the standout desserts on the menu is the Lychee Mixed Berry Meringue Party.
“It pairs lychee, raspberry and strawberry with a silky vanilla soy-based cream on top of a crisp, gluten free vegan meringue. It’s a colourful celebration on the plate that’s as light as it is indulgent,” she says.
AHA’s commitment to offering vegan and gluten free options was never an afterthought.
“From the beginning, it was essential to us that Aha Cafe had high-quality desserts that catered to people with dietary needs. We’ve worked hard to ensure those options are just as refined and satisfying as anything else on the menu,” Silla adds.
“We wanted Aha to feel like a retreat, somewhere to connect and indulge in fine desserts,” says Silla.
“Whether you’re here for a quiet coffee or a late night catch up with friends, it’s about enjoying the artistry—in the food, the space and the atmosphere.”
Launching a new venue among long-established neighbours hasn’t been without its challenges.
“Encouraging people to try something a little different is one of the hardest parts,” she admits.
“But we’re incredibly proud of the dishes we’ve created and the consistent quality we deliver with every plate.”
Looking ahead, Aha Cafe will continue to evolve, with a focus on seasonal ingredients and fresh ideas.
“We’re excited to keep creating fun and exciting dishes while maintaining the high standard of flavour and presentation we’ve set,” says Silla.
With its delicious and stunning dessert menu and late-night charm, Aha Cafe brings something new to Hyde Park, something sweet, stylish and worth stopping in for.
