I agree with the son. It’s so much faster. I consider the dad’s way the “I only cook for the family” way. 😛

Either one is fine lol

I agree with the Dad, fuck Gordon Ramsey, I’ve been cutting peppers for 35 fucking years, fuck Gordon Ramsey.
ugricicle
I’ve always chopped the top, bottom, slice it down the center on one side so that there’s just a slit in the side, and then roll it to take out the seeds, membrane, and all the bad stuff we don’t want, then slice/dice
hankbobbypeggy
I’m with the son. Also, really useful technique if you want jalapeño flavor but no heat. Just shave off the flesh and leave all the ribs and seeds.
JetKusanagi
I mean, either way works. The way that son was doing it is definitely faster, but there’s no harm in doing it the dad’s way, cutting it half and scooping the insides out.
All in all, there’s nothing to be upset about. There are issues between this father and son that go deeper than pepper cutting techniques.

Honestly this is a better advertisement and a place I’d rather eat at. I love passion.

Staged af. What was her tiktok supposed to be about, silently folding pizza boxes?
You know how you cut peppers in a pizza joint? With a Hobart. Ain’t no one got time to hand cut that many peppers
Wise_Replacement_687
Dad is correct. Son is wasting product the bottom of the pepper is not bitter. You can easily cut the pith and seeds and stem out without wasting any of the flesh of the pepper. They aren’t in a fine dining restaurant And Gordon Ramsey is a fucking tv chef twat.

This is a better TikTok than she’ll ever make.

The dad is correct. Unless you need matchsticks or some specific cut. If it’s going on a pizza or whatever, just don’t dads way.
LillyH-2024
Cut shallow across the top, stem pops off, that’s waste. Chop the top into a fiew pieces. Repeat with bottom, get rid of small center piece with the green point. Single slice down length of pepper, roll pepper out flat and filet out the core and bitter white pieces. Cut pepper into strips. The only thing I can think of as to why dad would be right is if you’re using an entire half a pepper for stuffing or some other recipe that requires it to remain intact.

Efficiency = Weight / Time, more weight per second is better
uncre8tv
Dad’s way: Halve the pepper, pop off the tops, pare out the ribs, notch out the pip at the bottom, make one or two more full cuts to expose remaining ribs, pare them out, then you’ve got 3 or 4 clean slabs to dice.
Son’s way: Stem down, shave off slabs of pepper, discard ribs and stem as one unit, dice your slabs.
Both are valid, son’s way is usually quicker, dad’s way is generally going to have just a touch less waste. Dad’s way for home, son’s way for volume.

Did Gordon Ramsay weigh in 🤣

I was taught cut down one side roll it out then take your knife and carefully run it down and remove the guts then from there you either cut it in to strips or dice it

I mean, do it however you want but the way the son is doing it is way easier imo for dicing and julienne since you’re cutting flat sides off.
Rekoms12
Depending on what the end product is, they could both be right.
ChimoEngr
I guess it’s a question of if the time saving makes up for the wasted pepper or not.
N7Longhorn
Its the exact same thing. And the sons way there’s less pith to clean

The Greek restaurant I first worked at would toss the cut green peppers on a baking sheet, sprinkle some olive oil on them and bake them for about 5 to 10 minutes. The owner told me it helped take the burps away. We never argued about how the cut peppers got onto the tray.

This is a pizza restaurant, not a fine dining establishment where the cut of the pepper is critiqued.
Cut in half top to bottom, rip out heart with hand, tap loose seeds out, toss in bin, and repeat. Once your bin is full, run them through a pepper slicer (tomato slicers work too). Done. I used to do a whole case of green peppers in less than 10 minutes. One or two seeds won’t ruin the peppers with bitterness.

Gordon Ramsay is definitely not the best chef in the world.

Neither one is “correct”, and neither one is “wrong.”
The son is cutting the sides off, removing the pith as he does, but the father can remove the pith after he cuts it in half (he mentions removing the guts.)
There are multiple “correct” ways to cut bell peppers, and it may only depend on how you plan to use them.
