It’s my moms bday tomorrow and she absolutely loves fish and chips. I want to take her to the best spot in the city, so Reddit, help me out, where can I find the best Fish and Chips in Toronto?

This pic is from Fresco’s Fish and Chips in Kensington Market but looking for more of that authentic British sit down vibe.

Old Yorke Fish and Chips have the best I have had so far in the city, I believe meet the UK vibe maybe. The Key Lime pie was amazing as well.

I still need to give Fresco’s fish and chips a world as well though.

Sea Witch is pretty damned good. Much closer to downtown, the F&C and vibe at St. John’s Tavern can’t be beat.

For a real pub vibe, The Town Crier (right next door to St. John’s) feels authentic!

Sea Witch 👍 and they make great onion rings!

Personally now that Penrose is gone, St. Andrews in Scarberia is my go-to. It’s certainly not up to that standard and it’s 1970s Suburban kitchen decor is not very date-worthy, but 90% of the customers are old Brits and Scots and it might be right up your mother’s alley.

Sea witch follow closely by Old Yorke

Sea Witch is as close to back home as I’ve had here. Open to suggestions but it’s a tough beat

Olde York is good. To add to that:

    High Street

    Duckworths

    and

    British Style Fish &Chips
    (across from 55 division)

all make decent fish and chips

  8. Olde Yorke or Sea Witch are both places you can’t go wrong eating at

Olde Yorke for Cod and Halibut.

    Len Duckworth’s for Haddock.

I’ve been to Sea Witch multiple times, but wouldn’t put it up against the two mentioned.

I personally like My Place on Vic Park. Very good quality, reasonable price. Huge portion. Does not have the key lime pie, which I agree, is incredible. Also, does not have the vibe and hefty price tag of Olde York. If you are just going for flavour and quality and not Leaside vibes. Check out My Place. If you do, the galactoboureko at Athens in the same plaza is a formidable dessert option rivaling the key lime pie. The dolmades are pretty incredible too.

sea witch hands down. old yorke is not it; i mean, you have to ask and pay for house made tartar sauce, otherwise they’ll give you packaged tartar sauce. what fish and chips place does that?

Gonna shoutout Kingsway Fish & Chips on Bloor west. I usually get their seafood chowder but finally got around to trying their halibut and chips and it was awesome.

Not sure if anyone has suggested it yet but Queen and Beaver pub is lovely (has a nice rooftop of the weather is nice), amazing herby tartar sauce and charred lemon.

House on Parliament for a nice upscale British pub vibe and good fish and chips. Queen and Beaver worth a shot too.

Olde Yorke is the best. Busters sea cove on st Laurence market has a good menu and is excellent

I always liked New Toronto Fish & Chips! I used to go there all the time with my dad, and something about the fish along with their gravy tastes special!

The Caledonian has fantastic fish and chips and is very authentic!

  19. High Street Fish & Chips has always been a fav of mine!

I love me St Andrew’s and McCowan Fish & Chips in Scarborough. Both places are great imo

If you’re up in near Fairview mall My Place fish and chips is stellar. Seafood platter of Fish, shrimp, scallops and chips. Da best.

Our go to is Len Duckworth’s on the Danforth (nearest TTC stop is Main and Danforth – 3 minute walk). No frills sit down restaurant and your fish and chips are served with thickly sliced bread if you want to make a chip butty. Scraps / bits are available on request. Reminds me of fish and chips shops I used to frequent in Yorkshire. Fish is nicely battered and not over oily and the chips are thick cut. Gravy available but sadly no chip shop curry sauce.

Len Duckworths! Owned and Operated by the same family since 1929 and on their third generation. So good and still has $8.50 lunch special everyday. Haven’t had better in Toronto!
