  1. Good job! A little too much rice. You also need a much sharper knife it seems.

Great first time! A bit too much rice imo. It looks a little too thinly cut, maybe?

Looks good. How does it taste though?

I’d do a bit thicker cut of fish and a bit less rice if you wanted criticism.

Too much rice, not enough fish, but a very good first attempt.

Not bad, but like others have said: too much rice.

Thicker slices of salmon and I’d say you’re where you need to be assuming you’ve perfected the sushi rice.

I really want to plunge my front teeth into that delicious buttery textured fish, And for that it really needs to be a bit thicker, But everyone already said that, I just wanted to say it looks delicious. Also I disagree with everyone on the too much rice aspect, But its personal preference for me, I do love sushi rice.

Rice amount might be fine because it should be tailored to the people eating it. Big mouth big shari (pad). Kid or smaller lady and smaller shari.

The neta (fish) could be a bit thicker and the cut looks a bit ragged. But hard to see with your resolution. Rice consistency also hard to tell.

Looks pretty good. You need to cut down on the rice.

    From Perplexity – Authentic Sushi

Authentic sushi typically uses about 20 grams of rice per piece of nigiri sushi.

For sushi rolls, the amount varies by style:

    • Thin rolls (hosomaki): about ½ cup (80–100 grams) of rice per roll.

    • Medium rolls (chumaki): about 1 cup (150 grams) per roll.

    • Thick rolls (futomaki): about 1⅔ cups (180–200 grams) per roll.

Each roll is usually cut into 6–8 pieces, so per piece, the rice amount ranges from about 10 to 30 grams, depending on the roll thickness and style.

  13. Really nice job. You have a little too much rice/neta ratio. Presentation is good and your fish cuts look nice with all the grain facing on direction too. Try not to put too much pressure when molding, a fluffy piece of sushi is just as important as all the other details.

Half the rice, twice the fish thickness 🙂

  15. Yugiriramenproject

18 grams of rice and a slightly thicker cut. Great start though!

that’s a great start! what was the most enjoyable part of making nigiri for the first time, and do you have plans to try making other types of sushi soon?

10/10!! Awesome job! Look so delicious

I would eat but I like my fish to rice ratio to be the opposite portion lol
