…And we're back to the next installment of white girl in Harlem shares her favorite Caribbean food.
This is Taste of Jamaica 876 at the corner of ACP and 125th. They're there pretty much everyday and the menu is consistent: oxtails, jerk pork or chicken, and curried chicken, along with fish on Friday.
My go-to here is jerk pork which is unctuous, rich, and spicy. The layers of fat and skin (my fave bites) are melty, not chewy or greasy, and the meat itself is always fork-tender. The spice level on its own is manageable for a tenderfoot, but their hot sauce is absolutely banging. You can literally see the pepper seeds in my photo. We usually do a mix of the hot sauce and the oxtail gravy, but today just went for the pork, hot sauce, cabbage, and rice and peas.
The guys are super nice, too, and the spot is so popular that nothing sits — they can and do sell out of the pork most days. $14 gets you this 🔥 plate.
