Just opened a bag of Pit Boss Competition Blend that I've had sitting in my garage for around 2 years.
When emptying the bag, near the bottom I noticed some pieces looking like this? Does it look like they've been moist them dried out over time that's why they kind of look expanded and crumbly? The pieces in question are the lighter pieces. These pieces were found near the bottom of the bag, so now I have about 5-7lbs of the 40lb bag mixed up with these pieces. The rest I have already filled into my Traeger hopper and the Lowe's bucket pictured and I didn't notice any pieces like that.
Question is, would you just toss the 5-7lbs that have been mixed up with these crumbly pieces to be on the safe side?

Traeger on!

Go return them. Moisture got to them. I wouldn’t use
Dude go buy a bag of pellets
nope go buy a new bag
Bag is 8-20 dollars
Unless you want to learn how to take out, clean and put your auger back together…..no.
If you have to ask, it’s a no.
Thanks for the replies everyone. I will definitely toss out the bottom of the bag stuff. Another issue is I already loaded my hopper before I noticed this but I’ll double check that before I use. I saw these at the bottom of the bag and the stuff I already loaded in the hopper was scooped and strained with a colander all those pieces look normal snaps in half and not crumbly.
Will have to store my stockpile pellets better I guess, this bag may have been sitting on the ground upright at one point.
You need to toss those.
I store my pellets in 5 gallon buckets with Gamma lids.
I keep 4 buckets full. I run through them pretty fast. Not much of a chance for moisture to get to them especially in the sealed buckets.
The bags they come in are not a barrier to moisture.
No. Get rid of them and stop storing pellets without a lid
I save and use the older pellets in my smoke tube, they are fine for that purpose.

No.
You could use them in a fire pit. In your traeger they may get caught in the auger and cause issues. We have a Solo Stove with a pellet adapter and burn pellets in there. If they are expanded but dry now they will still burn, just not get into the traeger correctly and cause issues.
