Have you tried this!? 😮
Everyone had a fit when I added squash to these raised beds-“there’s not enough room!!!” They said 🤨
But maybe they didn’t know you could prune like this-that squash plants can just hang off the side of the raised bed like this-and you can fit them right alongside a lot of your other plants.
Each week I carefully prune the lower stems on these squash plants and the flowers and the squash keep coming-even in this small Corten steel bed that’s also growing tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, beans, herbs and flowers too.
Let me know if you try this method…
Learn all about growing squash and so many other plants in my new book Leaves Roots and Fruit. Learn all about it at leavesrootsandfruit.com
PS-this is the small Corten steel bed-only $300, you can plant so much inside and it’s so pretty-especially with the yellow flowers don’t you think?
Find this raised bed in the Gardenary shop.

👍😍
Interesting, how many leaves should be kept?
Just back from my allotment and having trimmed mine. Far more produce if you nip the leaves back. No point feeding all the leaves when they are not edible
Rule of thumb, only trim 1/3 of your squash plant at a time. Anymore can potentially put it in shock
Why do i have all male flowers and no female flowers ????
Must try this tej leaves really do take over!
I started cutting back no more than a third at a time. Wish i knew this 25 yrs ago😅
Yay! Thanks!
Very nice ! Thanks for sharing
Would this work with cantaloupe since the leaves and growth are bout the same?
How do I know when my plant is done producing squash for the year? I haven't gotten a squash in a while, and I just pruned them back and now I have two very small ones forming. The tip of the vine is growing very small buds and leaves now, and is getting very skinny. Also I've only gotten like three or four per plant so far. (They are in individual containers, likely not big enough 😔)
Do they grow well with cucumbers? I planted them together
What of im only getting females ?
In the south where it’s always hot 🥵 and sunny 😎
The leaves are so the fruit can thrive. Cutting the leaves off slows down the growth process Plus gives shade to the fruit so they don’t burn.
Best leaves to fry and eat
Nice to see someone doing a lot with a small space. Make it work! 😍
