Opening this tin reveals two plank-like fillets of tuna and a few broken up pieces. The larger format of this can allow for fillets to be cut length wise and is a striking difference from round cans of tuna. It’s similar to jarred tuna in this way.
My first thought was that this looked like Ventresca. And, I do think it is quite similar I broke up the fillets to mash them on bread. This is tuna – but it’s very different from your standard tuna in olive oil. The taste is still distinctly tuna like but it’s very buttery, oily, salty in a good way. The oddest part for me was an almost Kipper like finish to each bite. This is a very good and unique tasting tuna that might have people who are bored of tuna wanting more.
