At Nostrana in Boonton, “homegrown” is a name and a philosophy. “My experience has shaped my approach to creating welcoming, thoughtfully crafted dining experiences. Ones that bring people together over great food, wine, and conversation,” says Gabi Lombardi Fischer. Gabi is a certified sommelier and owner of Lombardi Hospitality Group.

Food is rooted in Italian tradition and changes with the seasons. However, homemade pasta is always at the heart of the menu. “Each dish reflects a commitment to freshness, simplicity, and flavor,” Gabi says. Ingredients focus on locally-sourced produce, high-quality meats, and sustainable seafood.

The Nostrana menu features many classic dishes. That includes Nonna’s meatballs, house-made rigatoni Bolognese, and grilled branzino. Currently, Gabi is enjoying their linguine frutti di mare. It features homemade squid ink pasta tossed with octopus, mussels, shrimp, bone marrow, and a rich tomato sauce. “It reminds me of being in Italy, sitting by the coast with a glass of wine in hand.”

Meanwhile, their wine program showcases an extensive selection of Italian wines thoughtfully curating both iconic producers and hidden gems. Their cocktail list balances seasonal creativity with timeless appeal, featuring specialty cocktails alongside classic recipes reimagined with a modern twist. Gabi has spent years studying and sourcing wines, and says she has a particular love for Italian varieties. “Whether you’re sipping a bold Barolo or a Negroni, our bar is a celebration of Italian tradition and innovation.”

Nostrana Exterior

Nostrana offers spaces for private events in their main dining room or upstairs bar. They also host special events where winemakers themselves guide guests through wines alongside a custom, curated regional menu. The restaurant is open for dinner six days a week (closed Mondays) and brunch on the weekend.

About Nostrana Ristorante

“Nostrana’s interior captures the rustic elegance of Tuscany, blending warmth and simplicity with a refined, welcoming atmosphere,” Gabi says. The interior includes earthy tones, natural wood, and stone accents, evoking the charm of an old-world trattoria. Cozy banquettes and communal tables add to the inviting atmosphere. Outside, their porch is covered and heated for year-round dining.

Gabi has spent her career in the restaurant industry from front-of-house service to wine curation and menu development. Her first restaurant — Sorellina in Hoboken — opened when she was just 25 years old. Now, her hospitality group operates five locations/concepts: Sorellina Italian Kitchen & Wine Bar, Sirenetta Seafood & Raw Bar, Backstage Cocktail Lounge, Ombra Salumeria & Bar, and Nostrana.

Nostrana is deeply personal to Fischer, who grew up in nearby Mountain Lakes. “It’s a reflection of the community that shaped my love for food and hospitality,” says Fischer. “Opening a restaurant in my hometown isn’t just about great food and wine; it’s about creating a space where neighbors, friends, and families can gather and feel at home.”
