After 12 years on the corner of 50th and Penn, the Italian restaurant Terzo, part of the Broder family of restaurants whose building flooded after a water main break earlier this year, announced it is officially closing after months of uncertainty.
“The devastating flood that occurred on February 13th has left the space we knew to be Terzo unrecognizable,” a statement from the Broder family reads. “After three long months of uncertainty, we face a critical decision—start over or walk away? In mapping out the future of Broders’ Restaurants—we have realized that the time, energy and resources needed to rebuild Terzo are beyond our capacity.”
“Terzo was the chance for Charlie, Danny, and I to do things on our own, and [Molly Broder] really gave us the freedom to explore. We opened without pasta on the menu, which was probably a mistake, but we wanted to show that Terzo had more to offer,” the eldest Broder son Thomas told Mpls.St.Paul in a profile of the matriarch Molly Broder. “But what we were really learning was, as entrepreneurs, how to be resilient in the face of challenges. We learned for ourselves what we had seen in her model: that you have to be resilient in the face of challenges, that there’s always a path forward. We’re going to face hard stuff—everyone does in life—and she gave us that freedom to practice that on our own.”
Alongside Terzo, the flagship Broders’ Cucina Italiana and Broders’ Pasta Bar have commanded the same intersection of 50th and Penn for decades. The announcement also mentions that the Broders’ team is finishing an expanded dine-in experience at the Cucina Italiana, slated for this summer.
