I’ve planted a lot of onions. Including 30+ this year. Not one has popped up like this. Sorry, I have no idea!

Birds. I planted a full plot of shallots one year, and the crows came and pulled more than half of them out of the ground.

    Squirrels maybe???

This reminds me of one year when my dad tried playing potatoes.

Later, either that same day or a couple of days later, I saw a squirrel holding something brown and dirty. I didn’t think much about it until my dad tried checking on his potatoes only to see them dug up.

We wondered what happened until I remembered the squirrel

In my neck of the woods, it’s usually our curious crows!

  5. That is wild! I would try asking over at r/gardening or r/veggiegardening

  6. You could try replanting and sprinkling a heavy dose of cayenne everywhere. It won’t deter birds, but squirrels will get the message fast.

  7. I’m so sorry, it seems my cat has visited your house to play with your onion sets 😩
