Again, new to this 🤚

Yesterday and Today I tried to heat the kettle Joe but could no go above 500f.

Today I re-drilled the ash basket cause I've read that it was restrictive.

Maybe I'm just not using enough coal..

1/2 or 3/4 of my chimney in lumps.
All open top and bottom vents.

Anyone with a kettle Joe with good advices?

Definitely need more coal. And you can set the grate to the lower position to get the meat closer to the grill

  2. Way more coal is needed.

I fill my rather large chimney, then dump more on top.  Then seal it up when done and reuse the leftover coal next time.

At least double what you have now. And let the lid stay open for the preheat it’ll ignite faster that way. Don’t worry about dome temp gauge when direct grilling.

Much more coal. It’s a common mistake don’t worry, I did it with the Classic at first as well. You can shut it down and re-use what is left over.

I remember being there. I did a burn cook recently and the lid thermometer measured 850. Just need to add some more figurative gas to the fire.

I’ve gotten my kettle Joe to 900, it’s really just amount of coal, you’re gonna need to fill it up to basically the top of the ceramic. For like 500-600 3/4 of the way should do it, or about a layer from the top.

  7. I usually leave the lid open when I’m getting ready to sear. I take the cap off of the lid and let her eat. I usually get 650-800
