I took a trip out of the country for vacation, and I’m not going to lie—I went into this vacation with the full intention to not worry about food.

I wanted to fully enjoy my time. Weight can come and go, but these type of experiences are few and far between.

So I enjoyed the food there, and I did not fret too much about not being able to workout. I reminded myself that I will get right back to things once I returned home, but truthfully, I was a bit nervous to step on the scale today and see what damage had been done.

Turns out I only gained .8 lbs!

I’m sure the amounting of walking I did helped a little, as well as paying attention to my hunger/satiety cues, but ultimately—I am just really thankful I am not going to be set back too much.
Even though that’s life, and there will be other vacations, holidays, and celebrations, I just know in my gut that too big of a setback would have been a bit of a mental hurdle to face (speaking for myself).

Even if I had gained more, I wouldn’t have done or do anything differently. I’d still have wanted to just focus on enjoying my time there and then get right back to tracking and working out, but I have to be honest, it’s a huge relief to know I don’t have to undo too much of my hard work.

I hope that’s not controversial to say.

If I were speaking to a friend who was in a similar situation, I 100% would tell them to not worry about it. Just enjoy your vacation and then get right back to the grind when you return.

Anyway, even though I didn’t concern myself with calories while I was there, here’s a photo of a smoothie I really enjoyed having every morning.
So wish we had these in the states. The convenience, accessibility, and price will be sorely missed. 🥲

Wow I just made a post about the snacks I loved in Japan and this smoothie was one of them. I was also there end of May and ate at 7/11 almost everyday and just ate whatever else I wanted without counting calories. And actually gained no weight – don’t know how bc everytime I go on a trip I gain weight. But I feel the same – life is short, we should enjoy the trips and the food … how many times do you get to go to Tokyo in a lifetime?!!

  2. I went to Italy in October. Had gelato daily, sometimes twice a day. Had all the pasta, all the bread with olive oil and balsamic, all the cheesy goodness, and all the coffees. I was there for 10 days, only gained 5 pounds. I know 5 pounds seems like a lot but to have giant desserts and pastas galore, if I had been doing that without all the walking I was doing, it would’ve been wayyyyy worse!!!

I’ve been to Japan a bunch and my daily steps usually hit around 40-50k a day so I usually eat whatever I wanted while I’m there. I always end up losing at least 2kg every trip so it’s now my go to place to lose weight 😅. There are day pass for gyms all over Tokyo and you can take a day hike right outside the city center too if you’re worried about overeating there next time!

That bluebery smoothie yogurt smoothie is pretty good. I also like the strawberry banana one. 7-11’s butter chicken curry is the best. Next time you go, take a few minutes to check the protein powder section at Don Quijote. There are some flavors you can only find in Japan. With the conversion rate, the Japanese branded whey protein is very affordable. (They also have soy protein for those who are lactose intolerant. Sometimes the soy protein has more unique flavor options.)

  6. I just landed in Japan. First thing was taking a trip to conbini to grab an onigiri and chicken. And I won’t look back. That said, I’ll start right back when I come back home.
