Bought and planted 2 weeks ago. Had a 5 day period of gloom and rain. Is this from overwatering?

Those rocks will fry your plant. Use wood chips or straw instead!

Remove those rocks, use pine straw mulch

Sun scorching. As the other comments recommended, get rid of the rocks. If you have a problem with squirrels, build a little fence with some chicken wire.

Rocks get very hot as your plant is telling you. The mulching advice is spot on. I like EZ Straw. You’ll hear stuff about seeds in the straw and it’s probably true, but I’ve yet to sprout wheat like I did using Clean Straw. EZ Straw is finely chopped, so you can really build a 2-3” deep mulch layer that holds water pretty well and it’s soft, so there’s no spears to punch holes in your leaves. If you grow some unintentional wheat, just pluck it out before it hits 2-3 ft. Wheat seedlings pop right out, but if you let it root deep and grow into stalks, well, yeah that’s going to be a problem.

Regular mulch…and daily water you should be fine…I have an entire continent of squirrels in my yard and they never bother my tomatoes or peppers,I don’t know why
