Springfield’s newest restaurant, Osteria, is finally open after months of anticipation from the community, its owner Chris McKiernan announced.

Located at 301 Bridge St. in Springfield, Osteria will offer Italian dishes created to be paired with wines sold at the restaurant, McKiernan said.

His wine and tapas bar will feature house-made pastas, soups, salads, a variety of “small plates,” and appetizers with cured meats and fine cheeses, the owner said. Mediterranean-style foods will also be on the menu, and an assortment of Italian white and red wines — including Il borro toscana, moscato d’asti and piemonte barbera — will be available for purchase by the glass.

“I want to educate people on what pairings go best with traditional Italian entrees,” the restaurant owner previously told MassLive. “People aren’t used to Italian wines here. We can’t wait to introduce them to Springfield.”

Official hours for Osteria are Tuesday through Saturday from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m., and though reservations are not required, they are already booked out for the first week of January and into the beginning of the second week. McKiernan said bar seating should be available for walk-in customers.

Reservations can be made for the restaurant through his Instagram, @Osteria_on_Bridge, or through emailing the restaurant at OsteriaSpringfield@gmail.com.

McKiernan also said there would be a ribbon cutting ceremony for an official opening of Osteria with Mayor Domenic Sarno on Jan. 10 at 4:30 p.m. with a free buffet food tasting for the public.

Osteria, which means “tavern” in Italian, recently awarded a private dinner for two in an Instagram sweepstakes-style drawing to a newlywed couple. McKiernan stated in a post that the restaurant was able to transport the couple, who spent their honeymoon in Italy, “back to the Amalfi Coast” for the evening through the restaurant’s fine Italian dining. McKiernan also said there would be future giveaways.
