PATTY AND HER CREW ARE GETTING READY FOR SAINT ANTHONY CATHOLIC CHURCH’S SPAGHETTI DINNER. IT KIND OF MAKES THEM A LITTLE MORE SMOOTH. PATTY’S BEEN HEADING UP THE FUNDRAISER FOR YEARS. WE CALL IT SAUCE. THE LADIES OF THE CHURCH USED TO MAKE THE ENTIRE MEAL FROM SCRATCH. A COUPLE OF YEARS BACK, I. I COULDN’T DO IT ANYMORE. THE POTS GOT BIGGER AND I GOT SHORTER. TODAY, THE MEATBALLS ARE STILL HANDMADE. USING PATTY’S MOM’S AUTHENTIC ITALIAN RECIPE. YOU KNOW, ALL THE ITALIAN SEASONINGS? THE PARSLEY, THE BASIL, ROMANO CHEESE, OF COURSE. AND EGGS AND BREADCRUMBS. THE FRESH INGREDIENTS ARE COMBINED TOGETHER TO MAKE MOUNTAINS OF MEATBALLS. EACH ONE ROLLED TO JUST ABOUT THE PERFECT SIZE. JUST HOW MANY WILL THEY PREPARE? I BET ABOUT 700. AT LEAST. I SAY IT’S A SECRET RECIPE, BUT AS YOU CAN SEE, I GAVE A COPY OUT TO EVERYBODY AND IF THEY TAKE IT HOME, THAT’S FINE. HEY, LET THEM MAKE A GOOD ITALIAN MEATBALLS. WHILE THE MEAL IS DELICIOUS FOR THIS GROUP, THERE IS ONLY ONE THING BETTER THAN MAKING IT THE DAY OF HAVING PEOPLE COME IN AND FAMILIES EATING TOGETHER, ENJOYING A SUNDAY MEAL. AND SHANNON G. NEWS EIGHT. THAT LOOKS GREAT. SPEAKING OF FAMILIES, THIS IS SPAGHETTI. DINNER IS OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. THEY DO BOTH DINE IN AND TAKEOUT, WHICH WE LOVE. YES, AND IT’S HAPPENING THIS SUNDAY, APRIL 6TH, FROM NOON TO THREE AT THE CHURCH. YES. AND YOU CAN BUY TICKETS AT THE DO

LANCASTER, Pa. —
Parishioners at Saint Anthony of Padua Catholic Church on Orange Street in Lancaster are grateful for their church community. So, when they realized the first floor of the church needed significant repairs and upgrades, they decided to help the best way they know how.
The churchgoers are holding a Spaghetti Dinner to raise money. Patty Myer is leading the charge, and she’s done this before. Myer helped to organize about 14 fundraising meals for the church over the past few years. She and her crew used to make the entire meal by scratch, but Myer says they had to stop doing that.
“The pots got taller,” Myer said, laughing, “and I got shorter.”
Today, the meatballs are still handmade using Patty’s mom’s authentic Italian recipe, including all the seasonings from parsley to Romano cheese and breadcrumbs.
“I say it’s a secret recipe,” Myer said, “but I gave a copy out to everybody. If they take it home, that’s fine. Let them make good Italian meatballs.”
It takes about half a dozen volunteers to prepare the mountain of meatballs. They’ll likely serve more than 700 meatballs along with loads of pasta. Myer says the meal is delicious. For the volunteers, the only thing better than preparing the food is watching families enjoy it together.
