Moving houses .. about 45 mins away and some bumps along the way … what’s best way to transport safely?

Do I take it off the wheels and put a couple moving blankets underneath it and then a couple around it and gently use tie downs to secure in the truck … or what else has worked?

  1. I think a lot of people disassemble it. If you do that then you should be able to set the two ceramic halves upside down and secure them in your truck.

  2. That’ll be fine. Be careful with the firebox. Mines made it in one peace across an ocean and on moving trucks without anything removed. For a 45 minute drive to a new house you’ll be good.

  3. Safest or easiest way?

Safest you lock the air hinge, remove the lid, remove the interior parts, wrap and box everything.
Easiest you just load it carefully in the back of the truck (that’s how I did with mine).

Very, carefully. Might I suggest a foam mattress topper.

Mine actually survived a trans-con trip in the back of a container truck, but I don’t know how. The firebox didn’t.

  5. I took mine about an hour an and a half when I bought it on an open trailer. Just lots of straps. Like 6 or more.

Then when I got it home I had to take off the handles, side tables and everything out of the inside to fit through my door from the garage to the house. Lifted up the base to get the wheels in the house then through the house and out the sliding patio door.

  6. Take the internals out to make it lighter to move on to the truck. Once loaded you can put them back inside and use bath towels to protect some of the parts from banging around. You should be fine. I’ve moved 3 of mine without issue this way

I transported mine halfway across the continent, in the back of shipping container. Kept the wheels on, locked them, placed thick foam pads between the Joe and the wall of container, filled the inside with fire blankets/pillows. The fireplates all taken out and wrapped in blankets

Try to disassemble and then move it part by part. At least the fire box (inside), the pedestal, the side tables. The aim is to lessen the weight so it’s easier to carry and move.
