99% lean ground turkey for $3 a pound! Crazy deal if you're looking to lower the calories in a meal with ground beef (make sure to add broth or sauce midway though cooking so it doesn't get rubbery). I bought some less lean patties and sausage on thrift ($2-4/lb) as well to mix in for better flavor. The weird thing with this deal is it isn't a Weekly Ad special, just your average "lower price" (which pretty much half of all items in the store are).

  1. Also, I realize that I accidentally cut off the original price, $8.49/lb. So at $3/lb it’s really 65% off, aka better than BOGO. And I should mention for those not attuned to the lean meat section that 99% lean ground turkey RARELY if ever goes on any sale beyond $1 off.

What state is this in because it’s not SoCal right now for 99% lean.

I was an avid jennie-o ground turkey consumer until I realized my 16 oz package wasn’t 16 ounces. I complained and this was the response:
Turkey is naturally high in moisture. All meats contain protein that act like sponges holding water. As meat ages, is processed or cut, the proteins lose their ability to retain water. The meat will begin to release some of the water, called purge. The pad that is placed under the meat is absorbing this moisture. So the product can appear to be underweight since you cannot recover the purge that has been absorbed into the pad.
