Last year our garden was sad, only the lettuce survived.

Well turns out planting in clay will do that.

This year, raised beds, proper soil, regular watering, planting things at the right time. And we now have jurassic rhubarb (seen to the left), and 2ft high potato plants. And that's to say nothing of the whole bed the romaine has taken over.

Don’t quote me on this, but you might get some small potatoes. From what I’ve heard, you can get a lot of vine growth when you have good nitrogen, but the potatoes end up being tiny. I haven’t grown them yet, but I’ve been watching some gardening channels for advice and ideas. I hope I’m wrong though, and hopefully you’ll have a big yield

This is a joy to read!!! Are you adding any fertz for the potatoes? Some are helpful for roots and many people swear by clipping the flowers off potatoes to get bigger tubbers.

*your potato plants are massive. That does not mean you’re going to get big potatoes and given how shallow those beds look I’m not sure you’re going to get a large harvest. I grow mine in tall bags so I can keep laying up and up and up and increase the amount of yield.

I’m so glad other people’s potatoes were massive too! This is my first year doing potatoes, so I really didn’t know what to expect.

Looks like you could benefit from bone meal, a bit late now though, keep it in mind next year.

About the size of mine. I got a little carried away and planted massive baking potatoes. I did 30 large spuds.. I’m averaging 10-12lbs per plant right now and having a hell of a time eating and giving them away. Digging up my other 15 plants tomorrow.
