I got a seedling from my grandma, which I have been taking good care of, but I have no idea what sort of chili it is and when to harvest it. I asked her, and she can't remember either. Is it supposed to turn red at some point, or does it forever stay green?

Leaves and fruit look similar to Serrano
Serrano would be my guess
Serrano are typically eaten green, you don’t often see fully ripe peppers in stores outside of bells and half ripe habaneros because it takes longer to ripen and time is money. This is the reason that red and yellow bells cost twice as much as greens. That’s likely why superhots are rarely seen in any major groceries as well – who wants a green reaper?
To answer the question. Yes, serranos will turn red when fully ripened. They will also be at peak heat when fully ripe, so if you think a green one is spicy, a red one is likely to get your full attention.
