Its a smoker, thats where you put the coals and the wood to smoke meat.

That’s an offset smoker. Charcoal or wood go there.

You have a smoker, and that is where you build the fire

  4. Offset smoker. Load it with coal then smoking woods.
Works a treat, but uses more wood.

the area your picture shows is where the coals or wood & fire go… if there is a grill is said location you can direct sear on the grill, the other barrel is where the smoked meat is cooked

You put logs of wood in there and set them on fire.

You don’t add anything to the other side, just the meat.

It lets you slow cook and smoak your food.

As others have said it’s an offset smoker. You don’t have to use it if you don’t want. You can still use the center portion by itself like a regular grill.

That’s the fire box, and this is an offset smoker. Using charcoal, wood or both you light a fire in the fire box and the heat makes its way into the main chamber where you put the food. Can also build your fire in the main chamber but generally these are used for indirectly heating and smoking food. Pull the grates, add your charcoal and light, then replace grates once the charcoal is going and close it up so everything can get warmed up you’ll want to let the grates heat up for some time so you can get a good sear on your steaks.

  9. Now go to r/smoking and ask what the large portion is for!

Not an ideal setup for grilling. Get a cheap Weber for grilling.
