In eternally sunny and dry Los Angeles, it’s always hiking season. Whether a quick jaunt through Runyon Canyon before work or an all-day affair trekking up to Mt. Baldy, there are countless options for trails around town. When the hike is done, there’s only one thing on the mind — where to eat. Thankfully, there’s outstanding food just minutes from many popular trailheads.

Unfortunately, the Eaton and Palisades fires devastated the nearby communities in early January. Both Altadena, Pacific Palisades, and nearby Malibu are still recovering, with officials limiting access to some of Southern California’s most popular trails. Altadena’s Eaton Canyon and Echo Mountain remain closed, as does Escondido Falls in Malibu. A handful of Altadena and Pasadena restaurants are back in business, including Miya and Ferrazzani’s, which will be removed from this update given the lack of access to nearby trails. (Altadena’s Fair Oaks Burger, Good Neighbor Bar, and Perry’s Joint are respected establishments that could use support.) Though Lily’s Malibu remains open, it also steps away from the map this round. As Palisades and Malibu continue to reopen, longtime restaurants like Mastro’s Ocean Club, Broad Street Oyster, Palisades Garden Cafe, and Spruzzo Restaurant and Bar are open for service. Below are the best restaurants to dine before or after a glorious Southern California hike.
